Kind of dissapointed with my 6950 CF setup

Hey guys,

I'm really disappointed with my CF setup. I got 2 Sapphire Toxic Edition 6950's unlocked to 6970's. Ever since I got them I have had horrible scaling in games. In Tera, I get 20-30 fps on max settings whereas my 2010 Macbook Pro (with a GT 330m) gets 30-40 on high settings. On The Witcher 2, there is no CF scaling at all, my second GPU isn't even used (Same fps, 40-60 outdoors on ultra with CFX enabled AND disabled). I realize Witcher 2 was optimized for Nvidia, but still. I get really crap scaling on most games I play, and I blew $600 on those things! The only good luck I've seem to had is with BF3 (60-85 fps on average), but oh the micro-stutter.

I'm really debating selling my cards and going with either 2 500 series NVIDIA GPU's in SLI or one even more powerful NVIDIA 600 series GPU.

What 2 card SLI configuration or single Nvidia card will get better performance than 2 6950 (really 6970's though) in CF?

Btw, I heard somewhere if you OC your CPU you get better CFX scaling. Is this true?

i dont think that overclocking your cpu will give you better CFX Scaling maybe better performance but thats kinda it and yeah you can look at the GTX 670/680 if you want or even the 690 depends on your budget

what you can do is also is SLI the 670's its a bit more pricier but you get awesome performance

Ow my. Your CPU was meant for Overclocking. Yes, OC'ing the CPU will improve performance. If you really want to, I'd go for the 670. I'd stay with the 6950's til the 8XXX or 7XX, or further. Also maybe Re installing your Drivers would help.

Yea, some games it just isn't worth it, some people can get away with enjoying xfire setups but... well you see.
Tera is known not to scale with xfire. Current situation with Tera is devs wont do anything about it?

I would OC your cpu

You should be getting better performance, you try different drivers?

I don't want to wait to sell my cards since they'll depreciate further! How much of an increase would two 670s in sli outperform 2 6970's?

How much better scaling would sli give over cfx? I would think its better because of better driver support.

I just cleaned and reinstalled my drivers. No luck, but I will try overclocking my CPU if it will give me a significant increase!

I am having a fairly good time with my CF 6950 setup.
I would have preffered a new single GPU, but the price was too much. Got a rebufed 6950 for 190 bucks.
It's hard to see too much performance cause I can play most games fine with one 6950.
However CF works well with Stalker clear sky and pripyat, shogun2, empire total war, metro 2033, etc.

Takes a little bit of fiddling sometimes, but then again I fiddled with one GPU as well.

Two 670's can max any game at 1920, even with MSAA capped. You would still want to bump your cpu up to like 4.0 ghz though, even though SB is beast it can still be a bottle neck for a powerful set of cards if its not oc'd
