Kind of dissapointed with my 6950 CF setup - Page 6

Question is, why did you wait so long to overclock? Glad you figured it out though.

I'm not sure. This is my first build, and I didn't want to fiddle with the BIOS just yet in case I damage something.

Side question: I know it doesn't belong here but I just wanna ask anyway. Is there a way to overclock to exactly 4.5 Ghz? Right now I'm sitting at 4574 (with it going from .20-.90).

I'm trying with Prime 95 and under the blend test it eventually crashes at 1.35V. Does that mean I have to increase the voltage until it never crashes?

If my OC is not stable, I understand it will crash, but is there more to it than that? I'm I hurting it more than just a simple crash?

Thanks again.

^^Keep adding voltage till it doesn't crash. Read the SB Overclock faqs too btw.

Wow. Look at all that performance you had left on the table, geez. It's like a new lease on pc life.

Try disable Spread Spectrum.

Yes just add voltage in increments until it's stable. Keep an eye on your temps, but you should be fine with the 212 Evo for 4.5 GHz.
The crashes won't hurt anything. Too much voltage and too much heat will hurt your CPU.

Crashes and BSOD's can do lots of damage. Don't fool yourself.

Battlefield 3 went from 50-70 to consistently in the 70's. Checking Tera now. How could this beast of a CPU have held me back so much?
Btw, I checked my GPU activity, both seem to be working at full capacity smile.gif

lol, I'm glad to hear that u solved your problem.

"How could this beast of a CPU have held me back so much?"

well to be honest the 2500K is not that beast biggrin.gif

I always say its better to get a CPU with better single core performance than to get a multicolor CPU with lower core performance. for example a X CPU that has only 2 cores and each core gets 2 points in CINEBENCH is better than a Y CPU with 4 cores that get 1 point in CINEBENCH . Why you ask?

well because if you look at how a software or a game that support multicolor CPU is coded then you would see that game logic would be handled on the first core and physics would be handled on second core and data loading and etc.. would be handled on the third core. If one of these cores is maxed out, meaning that the usage on that particular core is at 100% load then your frame rate would drop because that core is not fast enough to process the physics or game logic or what ever.

so that core is holding your FPS back.

so lets say your 2500K at stock speed was getting in CINEBENCH software 1.0 point on a single core. Now you went and OCed your CPU to lets say 4.5GHz, your score now on only one core is 1.5 point. Now physics or game logic can be processed faster and without bottleneck.

He's telling you to use a known stable driver build. So yes, do what I outlined earlier in regards to driver sweeper.

alright.

Also, something interested I just saw. I logged my 2 cards while playing Witcher 2. They were both being utilized at 40-70%... is that weird? Also, I'm getting less fps ever since I increased my voltage on my cpu.. weird.

Edit: Restarted my computer, set CPU voltage from 1.36V to 1.35V, Load Line Calibration from Ultra High to High, and I'm getting double fps in Witcher 2 again, with both GPU's showing ~90+% load. What the heck is that about?
