Sabertooth questions

so something is not right. i have had my vcore drop to less than half of what it should be and there was a decent amount of load on the cpu... 4 webpages, media player and D3... I didnt think anything of it. the PSU is 4 years old...

According to HW monitor my 12V rail was also down to 6.89 and it JUST hit 7.54 as im typing this... so seeing as i have always upgraded before i have seen a part go wrong, could my PSU be going bad since it is unable to maintain the voltages?

Another thing i have noticed is (well since i didnt uninstall it yet), its saying the CPU socket reached 113C+ which i know is BS since my rig hasnt died yet.

So does anyone else have random alarms go off in ASUS suite? I think its the software or the actual mobo because HW monitor only measured 67C at the socket not 113C like ASUS is saying... cores do not go above 51C.




NOTE: i have posted this under motherboards since i started having the problem when i switched from an asrock 970 to this.

HWmonitor is running constantly i simply have not uninstalled ASUS Suite... for the most part Asus is off. it reported the split second drops and false reported the socket temp to be 113C when HWmonitor reported everything to be fine except the 12 volt rail and my vcore...

IT is now to the point where it will not boot. It turns on for 4 seconds and my H-100 is flickering? then i got a RED LED flashing just once and turned off before even showing BIOS. this was not the mem ok! button. Anyways, i hit the mem ok! button and it boots and says an OC has failed which is BS because i put it to sleep and it just would not boot...

Definitely sounds like a bad PSU since i did some math... with all my drives and fans and dual gpus and the cpu and board itself, im around 650w. So im thinking since its around 85% efficency, that would be 637.5 so i think i fried it... wont even boot on a known stable OC let alone STOCK.

well if the PSU is bad, thinking bout stepping up to a 1000 - 1200 leaving me room to upgrade my gpus like i want to. Any good modular ones out there? I will be running SLI so i will need something that has a high 12v rail current. Current one WAS rated for 60A single rail... Not like i know a whole lot about PSU's and i sure would take someones word on here over the people at microcenter... lol.

Ok looking at what PSU you have, you have an 850watt made by the same company! that explains why hwmonitor is showing that... my numbers are off but they werent off too bad (i mean 3.28v for the 3.3v rail and 11.96v for 12v but that suddenly was dropped by half)... Ive had my 750Watt for 4 years as of yesterday... so it went up a day before it turned 4 years old (well 4 years of operation... reliable). Kinda thought id have some warning about it going up but if i wasnt being stupid, i wouldve realized that my system took more than 637.5 Watts (the 85% efficency... 15% is lost in some other way such as heat...

Also, the CPU ITSELF WAS 50C-51C on ALL cores

There is a difference between socket temp and core temps. And the sensors are known to be about 10C off (+/-) in my case its over 10C off (in comparison to what hwmonitor reports)

temps arent worrying me as i am certain it was just flippin out because of the power supply and like i said that was ASUS suite not hwmonitor. all temps were WELL within normal operating temps because i got the warning and i looked at max, hwmonitor reported that ASUS suite is lying and ive proved that because socket never reached 120C... think it has to do with the sudden drops on the rail... again no expert on Power supplies. worst part, it spent its last day just playing flash games... so not like i was even pushing the system hard... ANOTHER reason on why those temps are BS... More proof is it reported my vCore to be 1.848v!!! hwmonitor didnt even pick this up so either it spiked or its just another reason why NOT TO USE ASUS SUITE

So like i said, im looking at PSUs... its been so long, i forgot the difference between modular and non-modular. I know its off topic really since my problem has been solved... (its the PSU). Anyone care to explain what kind of PSU i should get if i plan on running SLI 580's with a 260 PhysX? I know that it would be an insane amount of power but i cant even run SLI 260s with my 8 core, how am i supposed to run 580's with a 750Watt? since id be powering 3 cards possibly... might even go with 3-way SLI 580's. so what would be THE PSU i should get? Price is a factor but i can stretch it since my bday is in 4 days

RANGE: is upto $200 Possibly $250 if needed.
IF it is not within THIS range.. do all of us a favor and DONT POST IT. its $250 max and no more. Also, i will be buying from microcenter in madison heights, MI. I want it ASAP... so newegg is out.
Do i want a modular or not? I always mix it up. lol
What is the difference (again ive only bought some cheap PSU's and i bought my TX750.)
If you do suggest a product, could you please explain why? IE: "suggested because personal experience with product" I prefer actual input instead of the "o buy this, you wont be disappointed. i dont have the product but its good". Im sure you guys wouldnt go out and pull the trigger on something you are still unsure of... so please its just for my piece of mind and PLUS im a broke college kid so i dont have $200 every week to throw into this rig.

SOME may say dont OC if you dont have money to replace parts... You obviously dont know me. if it works, i fix it to be better. All about performance and i cant keep having a PSU get fried. So all i know is, IT NEEDS TO BE ABLE TO POWER 2x 580's in the future plus an 8 core and the mobo and fans and im not even done with fans...

NOTE: i just did cable routing... i dont want to have to repeatedly do the cable routing considering there are so many cables on the back side, i dont even know how i close it... o wait... i gotta clamp the panel in place while i put the screws in...

you ever think that there is no such thing as the PERFECT PSU? they are only 80% -85% efficent... so dont you think that would be shown in the voltages? All i know is my corsair does the SAME thing and i checked with my friends that all have em... they are all off in some way whether it be slightly over or slightly under. why do you think LLC exists? not saying HWmonitor is 100% accurate either... i just know that the majority of corsair PSU's do it...
