This. Which is why Microsoft had to release a Windows 7 instead of just upgrading Vista.

Lol when I get home all post benchmarks ran in vista and 7. If you don't know what your talking about you should really keep quiet. Vista scores lower than 7 on the same hardware in most benchmarks. 7 runs faster than vista in startup and shutoff...so how is vista and 7 almost the same???

Windows 7 is what vista could have been if they put the effort into fixing vista. But 7 has the support that vista does not.

Thanks, after reading the benchmarks you have shown I can now see they perform literally the same except Vista excels in file compression.

The only performance bound judgement (by people who are smart) made to justify spending ~$150 to upgrade to 7 was boot time, T.R.I.M. and DX11. Which was then later released for Vista anyway.

You obviously didn't look at those benchmarks. It showed vantage, games all getting better scores/fps with windows 7 compared to vista. We are after all after the best performance here. Paying $150(actually $119 to upgrade) for quicker start up, shut down, better fps and higher scores in benchmarks is def worth it. We are on overclock.net and after performance. Hell there are processor upgrades that cost more than $150 and give you less performance jumps than going from vista to 7 lol.

The ONLY reason to buy W8 is if it offers a big performance leap, which is doubtful. Besides, I can run all the games I own, so for now, I wouldn't buy it anyway.

There are tonnes of reasons W8 is better than W7, for me at least Metro ruins it.

And I'll just leave this here:
Two clicks to get to control panel.

Then it's equal, and believe me I don't really want to repeat that I've used it and don't like Metro; but I'm sick of seeing the derping about people just basing their opinion of it from videos and photos.

Ever used Vista beyond SP1? It runs really well, even on a 1.9Ghz single core with 1GB RAM. I ran the Beta on that too and it was as fast as XP; you really have your tech card pulled if you believed the hate about it without using it. (Same goes for anyone saying anything about Metro without using it, too)

Yep, W7 has the support and 3-4 new features that people here would use. That's why we get it rather than Vista, but Vista is most certainly not crap and the differences between the two OS are negligible and unnoticeable unless you're staring at a graph, plus for gaming FPS is not everything. I was pulling less FPS when I upgraded to Vista from XP but the games were a hell of a lot smoother.

So if Windows 8 has 'quicker start up, shut down, better fps and higher scores in benchmarks', will you get it?
But thats besides the point. The original argument was that Vista runs like crap. Looking at your benchmarks it is about 3 fps slower, and loses a few points in benchmarks, but is still unbelievably close. So a non-issue, unless you care about looking good on graphs. We are simply asking you to stop hating Vista, it has no real issues anymore.

No the real issue was people claiming there was no point to upgrade from vista to 7 since they ran identical. As I pointed out they don't. They are similar but you are forgetting one big thing. Each of those tests was done using sp2 vista against rtc 7. I'm willing to bet, if testing done now with sp1 on 7 the speed and performance increases would be even greater.

And the original argument was that there was no incentive to warrant the price of upgrading to 7 from vista at the time of 7 release. Microsoft had to release a new name because the original release of vista left such a poor taste in the mouths of the consumer market.

We can keep talking about how new technology is better than old technology though. That'd be fun.
