POWERTUNE SET TO 20% !!! PLEASE READ AND ENLIGHTEN !! AM I JUST AN IDIOT ?

Hello all, im not sure if this would help people "lock" powertune to 20% permanantly, i was just playing around with cheat engine 6.2 and have narrowed down the code that changes when you adjust powertune ! .

forgive me if this doesnt help or is a bit wacky , but could this not be "saved" so u dont have to change powertune all the time from reseting itself ? or even set power tune to 20% without using ccc ?

PLEASE HELP ALL IF IM ONTO SOMETHING HERE ....... (or it could be plain stupid ) biggrin.gif

here's a snapshot......

im sorry but powerune is not just for 7 series, many people use pt when they oc a multitude of cards ! it increases the cards tdp limit , lets say for instance my 6950 , i oc to 880 gpu and then stress test , in msi the clocks will jump down and up again with a 0 percent pt. as soon as i raise pt to +12 the clocks stay at 880 ! they are not throttling due to temps either (71c) its only when you get to higher clock speeds that you need to adjust pt to +20 , this is also true with 68 series . please do some research about it and you will see its definatly not just for 7 series ! pt has been on ati for years before 7 series cards

Powertune on 6950 too, not just 7000 series. Yup always happens to me, unable to lock +20 in with a profile save. I just apply OC profile-save-open settings-set to +20-hit ok. I do this each time i want to do some gaming or benchmarks.

Bottom of thread, I link to where you can edit the Powertune settings in the registry. Btw, it doesn't reset itself, unless you use an app that conflicts and resets it. Is yours resetting itself?

Can I get a quick n dirty explanation of power tune? If you overclock should you just crank it up to 20%?

In the slider’s default position, the coprocessor that governs AMD PowerTune will intelligently manage the GPU’s core clockspeed based on the default thermal profile of the product; a hypothetical enthusiast product might be 225W.

From there, AMD PowerTune is essentially biased towards maintaining the clockspeed defined by the user or vBIOS, whichever is higher. This is driven by the AMD PowerTune logic, which forecasts the GPU’s future temperature based on the past few microseconds of activity.

Now that you know that, it’s easier to understand how the Board Power Li slider works. By decreasing the slider into the negative range, the user can effectively tell the AMD PowerTune logic to simulate a board with a TDP that’s up to 20% lower. This could be good for HTPCs or power-constrained SFF systems with smaller PSUs. In contrast, increasing the slider can effectively raise the board’s TDP by 20% of the baseline.

If a user attempts to run an application that pushes the GPU to exceed the current TDP threshold, the board may throttle the clockspeed, which would cause a dip in performance. With this in mind, overclockers should make sure to increase the AMD PowerTune slider to accommodate the new thermal load introduced by a higher GPU clockspeed.

I totaly dislike that powertune thing, its a pain in the a.. because of that I have to open like 3 program to get an the OC stable and its pretty complex... and I have to repeat that every boot

First I need to hack every release of the driver with a register key to allow more clock that default because I need to finish the overclock in CCC.. I have to do that because I use Saphire trixx to add voltage and set clock to my 6950 dirt 3 but the powertune setting only save on the first card with trixx, that why I have to open CCC right after I close trixx to put the second card to 20% ( if CCC is not unlock by register key, the clock cant go up to 900), then I start MSI afterburn for fan control.

The worst is IF I forget to do what I just write after a reboot, CCC save the previous clock (900) but the voltage is not there so GPU crash.

I wish they add powertune only to low end graphic... ppl that buy 6900 or 7900 are not the kind of ppl that want to save energy ....
