want to do a small oc on my phenom II x4 975

want to do a small performance boost on my pc. my rig is in my signature. I only have a stock heatsink fan right now. for the mean time id like to get a little performance boost like 3.8-4.0ghz. is that possible?

get rid of the stock heat sink then overclock.

The best heatsink for under $30 is the Hyper 212+. I highly recommend it.

^^ Me too. Best for the price. If you looking for a better cooler some of the thermaltake works good as well.

Agreed on the heatsink and board. The 212+ heatsink is 20-30 bucks if you look around and a new board is whatever price you are willing to pay. I am about to get a whole new mobo and have a proc very similar to yours (965BE). I am currently leaning towards the 990FX sabertooth board that ASUS makes. OC results are good and the board is reportedly solid for overclocking. I'm interested to see what you decide.
