[Ted.com] Tracking the trackers

Ted talks

http://www.ted.com/talks/gary_kovacs_tracking_the_trackers.html

this is pretty interesting

lol 39 billion for selling our personal information, habits, and preferences? and its funny to think facebook still asks us to click on ads for them. no thanks, i'd sooner donate to ad block plus then click on ads

also, im gonna install collusion, sounds interesting to see my own web profile

I think this is only for firefox? lol can't imagine this being on chrome, that would be quite ironic

there is also a firefox add on called ghostery? i think it helps you block stuff like this from happening- edit: after installing ghostery and checking all the boxes except for widgets, my collusion map so far has 0 gray or red bubbles, yayy!

EDIT: after installing collusion, click on the bottom right corner icon (a red and white circle) to bring up your collusion page

Thanks for the link! Rep+

I use the RequestPolicy extension for Firefox, I guess it does the same job as ghostery.

Edit: this is what Ted's site looks like:

288

I had to allow googleapis for the video to start. Some sites like Newegg are already going around this by requesting that the traffic pass through other sites before the Newegg site loads, there are still cross site requests you can allow or keep blocked when you're browsing the site though. Newegg doesn't link to facebook though, for example.
