well i left prime on overnight and it locked up (froze) after 10 hours and 20 minutes.... Is this a sign it got overheated? temps were: 50cpu, 38core, 30mb..

you could bump cpu/nb to 1.3 or just call it done after all when are you going to run the computer at 100% for over 10 hours soild? Yes its a heat isuse

fair enough.... just tryin to keep up with the jones' lol...will try 1.3, and see if that allows me to lower vcore a bit.
new cooler is on the way (h100) and should lower temps a fair bit i would hope

you're missing the way to overclock.

start @ 1.4v and then pump up multiplier until its unstable, THEN you rachet vcore up a notch.
rinse/repeat until you hit your 55c wall.

you're arbitrarily setting a voltage and then fiddling with it and therefore don't know what's your chips limits at each increment which is limiting your ability to hit your OC at the lowest heat/voltage level possible.

Mine only took about 1.38 to hit 4.0 on 4 cores, I haven't tried pushing much farther, thought the screenie might help some with settings, sorry if someone posted something like this already I browsed through the post really quick, about to go to sleep.

Btw, you should be looking at the core temp, not the "CPU" temp. I think CPU temp really means the socket or something. I see you're only at a 40c core temp reading.

Nice OC Linear. but ripsaw, I doubt you or I will ever get a 260 bus stable on our board. He's on a Crosshair V. A much better board with a lot higher power phase. Thats also probably why he can use less voltage. I have noticed the M5A97 seems to be limiting overclocking. Im debating buying a sabertooth, but I may just get an 2500k instead...and a sabertooth.

The M5A97 is 4+2 power phase. The M5A97 Evo is 6+2. The Crosshair V and Sabertooth are 8+2
