Oops, slipup wink.gif Meant to do the 7200rpm 320GB. Changing it now.

It would not recommend going with a 45nm CPU that is now 3 generations old (45nm < 1st gen 32nm < 2nd gen 32nm < 22nm) The 125watt phenoms run hot, you will probably want to overclock which means you will have to spend even more money on aftermarket cooling... The i3 and Pentium will run cool as ice on their stock coolers. Just my .02

i3 2100 is dual core, it's garbage. 45nm AMD Phenom x4 is way better. It's at the least quad core which is usefull in anything. I know alot of games are still running on dual core, but AMD Phenom x4 is still good enought. but dual core is just not enought, at the least for upcoming games and battlefield 3, mw 3, diablo 3.

Better than your AMD at gaming, which is this rigs purpose. Much better in any other perspective too.

Except that the OP just wants to play D3 (which only uses 2 cores)

Also, check this comparison out. Yes, the 955 beats the Pentium in benches that utilize the extra cores, but not by much. The real results for our discussion are at the bottom of the screen. Check out how close they are.

And before you argue that you can oc the 955, I wouldn't recommend doing so with a 125w processor on a basic non-heatsinked board. The Pentium is giving you that same performance with only 65w and the use of the quiet stock heatsink.

There's a lot more to it than just # of cores. Also, I was recommending the G850 (I typo'ed in my response to the build above). The higher wattage processor requires a larger heatsink which puts more heat in the case which requires more cooling. Also that higher wattage comes into consideration when picking the psu. In addition, the OP can save a little more in the near future and put an i5 2400 in which will absolutely spank any phenom. I do agree that the phenom is a great chip, but for this particular build, is just not necessary. If the op wanted to go amd, I would recommend the Athlon X3 450. At $75, this chip is pretty sweet.
