I have a frio ock on the amd4100, and im happy with my oc and temps, I wanted to push my gpu harder, would it be too much work/money to water cool my 6970?

I see no problem with that gpus run hotter and louder if your already happy with the cpu temps then just cool the gpus but you can always add the cpu later if you wanted to.

Really you think a 240mm would be needed for a single 6970?

A 120mm should would work fine.

I have an Antec 620 cooler on my gtx 570 and it runs 56C max @ 955 core and 1.113v. I'm pretty sure that is a 120mm rad.

Checkout the ati/amd mod club. You don't have to waste money on a full WC setup unless you want it to look flashy. Using an Antec 620 will be cheap, quiet, and give you great temps. The only real advantage with a custom loop is that you can expand the custom loop if you want to and they have better aesthetics.

A 240 would be needed for okay temps, sure 12O will work, but for the small
Price difference u will love more space,
I would Almost grab a decent 36O so I could add more in later without problem.

How so, under 60C isn't good temps?

A 120 should keep you under 60C no problem....unless you need like 40C max temps for some reason.

Although getting a 240 rad won't cost much more and will give you room to add more stuff to the loop later.

I sit just above 60 with my freakin air cooler, I think if the op wants to feel the money spend to be worth it in temp drops more rad space the better, + depending on his ambient temp that may not be the case, I have close to a 24c difference between winter temps on my CPU and summer, more rad space would reduce those max temps, in winter I wouldn't need it but summer I would kill for extra space, and regret not going bigger my self, and if u r doing any OC, u want it to be good all year,
He could get away with 120 for sure, but 240 plus will feel far better temp wise,

Ur prediction of sitting around 60 with a 120, it isn't much OC room, let's pump the volts and the core clock,

I would suggest 120, though if you have space for a 240, you might as well spend the extra $10-20 for more cooling surface area.

I'm going to second this, if you're just looking to push your GPU a little harder or drop the temps, but don't want to set up a full loop for the CPU also, one of the all-in-one water coolers modded to work on a GPU is a very viable option. If you're going for a custom loop for the GPU, I'd personally go ahead and include the CPU in it as well, it's trivially more expensive and will provide better cooling and/or less noise than your air cooler.

Not all that true on requiring a 240mm for decent temps. Keep in mind that the stock cooling solution on graphics cards is significantly worse than CPU air coolers, so even moving to a single 120mm radiator is going to be a huge step up in cooling capability.
