[Build Log] INVICTUS: "Unconquerable" - Page 11

Asus motherboards come with a Q-connector that makes it very easy to plug in those cables, it's a gray piece with pins sticking out. You plug the cables into that then plug the piece onto the motherboard where the wires usually go. I can't wait to see the computer finished, I always wanted to build a water cooled pc but was to scared to lol. Great build log and congratulations on the acceptance to grad school! thumb.gif

Power buttons are just mini switches, the + and - do not matter, since they are just bridging a connection.

Power LEDs, however, do need a + and - to be followed correctly, otherwise it will not work.

I tried both ways. Does the orientation matter (does the pin have to face a particular direction)?

I figured out the BIOS problem. My keyboard isn't recognized by the computer. I might have to do a firmware update once I get Win7 installed. I'm using an old keyboard I borrowed from my parents and that got me to the BIOS settings right away. I encountered another problem with respect to my external DVD player. I am not able to load and install Win7 on it. I'm troubleshooting this right now, but trying to make my USB thumb drive bootable with an iso version of Win 7. I followed the instructions here to make my USB drive bootable with Windows, but I'm getting a bootmgr is missing message. However, when I open the USB on my laptop, I can visibly see bootmgr inside.

A lot of unforeseen challenges with this build! Thanks to the guidance I received on the forums, the water cooling and components were the least of my problems. Haha, it was the unforeseeable things like this that really got me... Your help is greatly appreciated.

Will keep you updated. Main problem right now is making the power button on my case to work. Like I said before, it just says Power LED on the two wires. I alternated both between + and -. Nothing... I'm not sure if I'm doing something wrong here...

Using a screwdriver in the meantime.

Front panel connections should be fairly basic, provided you look at your motherboard manual. The PWR LED wires are just for the light of your power button, to let you know your PC is on. The PWR SW is/are the cables you need to connect to actually make the switch work.

It's possible that for a fresh install, the external may require drivers that the Windows disc does not contain. I'm not familiar with installing via USB, but I know there is a guide in the Windows section of OCN.

I think it's time to contact MM again in regards to how to properly connect your front panel cables. Are you sure there is only the POWER LED ones?

Are they green and white like the pic?

I'll check out the Windows section right now, and I've already sent out an email to MM. I'll probably get a response on Monday.

Yes, it only came with two wires (one blue and the other white) and they are both labeled Power LED.

Odd. It seems you are having more stress than usual on this. frown.gif I hope you don't get discouraged. Sometimes it is better to have to deal with hassles, so that the next time a situation arises, you've already learned how to adapt. thumb.gif

Internal DVD drives are cheap now. Get one and use it with the case open. At least you will get your OS.

I do the above with my fan-testing rig. I use a 64GB SSD but no spinning no HD's. The MB has a legacy PATA cable connection, and I have an old PATA DVD drive. So I used it to install Windows. I used it to run an HD Erase CD-ROM when I needed to erase my C300 SSD to use on my main rig. But otherwise the DVD drive sits disconnected, doing nothing.

With the cheapness of current optical drives, just get one, use it to install Windows, etc. then disconnect it.
