Stuck to my word on not buying until it goes on Steam.

Same here.

I try to keep all my games on Steam and would prefer not to use another distribution platform.

Just makes it easier for me.

I can understand that logic. Steamworks is still better than the activation limits though...

That's definitely true. At least you don't lose your game because you didn't jump through unreasonable hoops!

(mine does that too sometimes, computer puts a limited/no connectivity error on my network connection even though i am connected to the LAN, have an IP and can browse the web, things like steam/origin/teamspeak/etc all throw up connectivity errors until i disable and reenable the connection)
.
It's simply me trying to launch steam in offline mode because my net is down, and that was the result.

Steam... like it or hate it, its intrusive and pointless DRM thats forced upon users to play games. If you people can make such a stand against one DRM, why not all of them? Maybe they will stop. But this, "I will only use DRM if its Valves DRM" which sounds oddly familiar to the types of things we hear from fans of another, much less popular company...
Oh well.

Had you provided an accurate and logical criticism we wouldn't even be having this conversation. It's interesting that you call me rabid when you have a very myopic view of DRM. As much as it sucks it's the age we live in. A lot of games wouldn't have been ported to PC because of the fear of piracy. Many sequels wouldn't have been funded because people pirated the original.** Steam has it's faults, but as I said earlier I see it as a reasonable compromise. You honestly believe outlawing DRM won't have a negative effect on PC Gaming?
**You can never fully stop piracy but if it's too easy to do EVERYONE will do it (remember Napster?)

FUD = Fear, Uncertainty and Doubt

Steam is DRM. Fact.
DRM thats forced on users to play many games. Fact.
If people hate one DRM for being DRM, why do they love another so much. Was a question I asked. Very accurate and logical interpretation of the situation.
My other comment was more of a jab at the above.

Don't see any FUD here.

Seriously dude... most of you anti-steam people are so focused on making a stand you don't make any sense at all. People who complain about Origin complain about their issues and how widespread they are. People who hate GFWL complain about the log-ins, region restrictions, performance hit, match-making issues, etc... Most people on OCN who hate steam usually just say "steam sucks too" or "all DRM is bad" without actually citing specific problems that are as wide-spread as the issues that plague GFWL and Origin.
What makes it even more pathetic is most steam critics on OCN don't even understand the difference between the steam digital store and steamworks DRM. How can someone take you seriously when you don't even fully understand what you're protesting against? Listen to your own argument: You went from blaming steam for forcing you to use the launcher, to admitting that all games don't require you to do so. Wouldn't logic demand that you blame the publisher, since steam doesn't make it mandatory?

Your calling me Anti-Steam. I am not. I am anti-DRM. Steam is DRM. I have nothing personally against Steam for being steam, or blindly hate it, while letting others off with the same offenses. I also made a lot of sense, others have said so as well.

I called you rabid because of this post. You basically come out calling me a hater for no reason when I clearly gave accurate and clearly defined reasons for my opinion. Then you put down GFWL and Origin while praising Steam. Forgive me, but you came across as very bias. You then use the term pathetic to describe my views or post and other people on OCN who you feel don't even understand the difference between steamworks DRM and the digital store. But most people talk about Steam, mean the steam program, as the store is integrated with the application now.
People take me seriously because I am very open minded and willing to see both sides. I have complimented Steam on many occasions and bought from them in the past. But its getting frustrating. And again, what I'm against is very clear, I can't see how you miss it. I've already addressed your last comment.

I don't know if your actually reading my posts. But please stop putting false words in my mouth and claiming I have no real beef, just whining. As I've clearly stated my reasons, and they are valid and existing issues that are far from small to me and many others. If you can't understand this, I cannot help you.

This is getting old and pulling this thread off topic. If you feel you must have it out with me, feel free to send me a PM.

I could sort games with many subfolders and keep a fav list all very easily and much neater. Best thing, no DRM! No extra client I won't be using. For me, the only thing steam has ever been used for, it to launch games I'm not allowed to launch directly themselves because even after buying it, I still don't own it or have the right to simply play the game itself.

yeah have fun install, patching and cracking each one by hand and on each machine you own and for that is 3 or more. I think i lean more towards steam ALSO because it is more than drm it tracks my hours lets me assemble wish lists has built voice chat and chat and can even let my join a friend in multilayer by automatically launching the game and auto joining said game. Mainly that is because where all my games are though, i'm sure one day origin will do that stuff too but, thats not my hang up, just want all my games in one place. if they wanna sell on steam i'll buy if not i'll find something else. sure it isn't like gog but, hey it works for me and compared to other DRM it is almost not evil at all let alone the lesser of two evils. For me, one place, cloud save, easy install. so all in all it is a service thing for me.

Also you never own the game and never will, even when on disc you should read the eula. Yes DRM only hurts the paying customer we both have similar views and agree for the most part, i'm not arguing against you.

I don't Pirate, so I don't need to patch and crack games. I just won't buy games with insane DRM and try to stay away from most games that have any sort of DRM, hence why I wouldn't buy Portal until they were under $5.

And all the things you listed are great features and Steam is to be commended for making it such a pleasure to use. I'm not arguing any of that. The fact remains that its forced on you, without your choice. Want to play our games? Tough, download, install and run our program all the time or no game for you.

It's great to have these features available but I think its very important that we as a community let publishers and devs know we will not be bullied into everything. Steam is great, but it should be optional, simple as that. The part that scares me most is that the community is so Pro-Steam that we're digging our own graves. Once one company can get away with something, all companies will exploit this. I worry that in 10 years, I will be forced to download, install and constantly run a program for almost every game I play, as it seems all publishers will have their own DRM clients like Steam/Origin.

I remember buying a MS game... what was it... Sector 8 or something? I bought it for one purpose. To play SP game during commutes. Guess what? GFWL and always online DRM for an offline SP game... I paid for a game that I could not play. That is not fair.

These are the types of things that are being forced upon the community. The direction the gaming industry is moving in is bad for us consumers. Seriously, AAA DLC packs now cost more than most non-AAA titles themselves... what nonsense is this?

I bought bf3 and c2 couple of months ago in origin store, stopped playing those after couple of days because the origin is effin buggy as hell, uninstalled it and forgot about it. I might buy c2 in steam.

Well yes that's exactly the problem. With steam you cannot go into offline mode unless you have a connection.
