Dorm Speakers for $100-150 - Page 2

Go with the Lepai TA2020, Dayton B652's, and a Dayton SUB800 off Parts Express. Don't forget speaker wire and a 3.5mm to RCA cable (probably 6 feet).

Don't go for the DTA-1. The Lepai is a better amp.

The person I'm rooming with already has his own Klipsch ProMedia 4.1, which I've listened to, and while it's nice, I just can't see myself spending that amount of money on the 2.1 version. I would much rather put a bit less money into a nicer and much more flexible setup. And for a DAC, I plan on picking up something inexpensive with good capabilities, or if worse comes to worst then I can run the signal through my HiFiMAN EF2 on a low volume, as it has a great DAC and the amp shouldn't be too intrusive.

I've kept thinking, and I've decided I'm going to go with the Lepai TA2020, and for now just the Dayton B652's. I will decide after some listening if I need more bass. And I am not worrying at all about cables, I currently have a very large surplus of cables rolleyes.gif

If this is the case, might want to look at some higher end bookshelfs then, if you can stay within budget....or a better T amp.

Things to look into:
Polk Monitor 30's
BIC Venturi dv62si
Dayton DTA-100a T amp

All of these are well worth the money, just depends on where you want to put the money at. More power, cleaner sound, or a brighter sound.

I used the Audioengine A2 my sophomore and junior year, and then upgraded to the A5+ my senior year and beyond. Great speakers, and be sure to get the stands with them.

When room space is limited, getting small yet good speaker equipment is a priority, and you aren't sacrificing much with either of these two. Just hook them up right into your sound card and you're good to go.
