Diablo 3 Stutter / Jitter

Thread Starter
Hi folks,

I'm quite sensitive to frame rate dips and changes and the worst type of fps issue for me is when games stutter. It drives me up the wall. You could do your best to ignore it, but once you see it you cannot unsee it if it makes sense.

I get what can only be described as a very slight jitter. I notice it mostly when your running sideways and the screen is scrolling. It was pretty awful in the fields of misery (think thats what they were called)

Micro stutter could be another buzz phrase used, but I haven't noticed it in any other games I play right now.

My system is an i7 2600k @ 4.5Ghz , 8GB Ram, 2x 570 GTX SLI and I tried running the game off my second SSD (240GB Vertex 2E) with the same results.

Tried the latest 301.42 drivers and previous beta set, same issue.

Unchecking the min / max fps sliders doesn't seem to effect anything. Neither does setting affinity to just two cores.

I have a 120hz monitor, but setting it to 60hz in windows did improve things a little.

Sometimes it doesn't happen at all, especially in dungeons.

I just cannot work out whether it is latency/network related or graphical.

I've seen youtube videos of stuttering people get but it's not as bad as that. It's just annoying and slight.

Any ideas?

I have a amd card and I was experiencing the same issues it ended up that the power saving settings where down clocking my gpu because D3 just wouldn't push it hard enough

so try to check you gpu power saving features do you have afterburner installed?

One possible cause of your jitter could be the mismatch of clock speeds between your 570 if you are indeed running SLI. One could be at normal clock speeds while the other is stuck in power saving for whatever reason.

Funnily enough, despite the fact that Nvidia drivers support SLI, D3 itself does not.

Possible solution found on b.net forums:
Quote:

However, with nVidia's latest driver release 301.24; they support SLi in Diablo 3 where Blizzard does not. When you install Diablo 3, open your nVidia control panel and look to see if it recognizes the game as installed; if it does not, search for the Diablo 3 exe manually and it will load nVidia's custom SLi profile. Good to go.

Source

Failing that, this worked for me:

Download Nvidia Inspector, go to profiles and navigate to Diablo III.

If it is not there by default, navigate to the .exe manually.

Go to SLI profiles and remove what's already there and paste in "0x02500005" without the quotes.

Save and restart D3, should be happily SLIed.

This fix works to create SLI profiles for any game that doesn't have working profiles at launch for whatever reason, like Witcher 2 from CD Projekt.

I tried disabling SLI completely before, still had the issue.

My drivers do have an SLI profile but they seem to be using value 0x02400005

It's not your computer, it's blizzards servers. Since the world that you play in Diablo 3 is streaming from their servers there will be latency issues and some noticeable lag. Nothing will ever fix network lag, it's the price we pay for being good consumers and purchasing the game legitimately.

I have a pretty similar issue but i think it is caused bay lag. It gets more noticeable after 200ms latency. Not at all noticeable under 100. I always check my frame rates and they are constant when i notice that happening. This could be a down side of always online games. Maybe it will get fixed with upcoming patches.

Changing "Hardware class" from 5 to 4 seemed to help me with this. It's in what I think was D3Pref or some sort of config file within the D3 folder in Documents.

You can't pirate Diablo III yet anyways, so that argument isn't as valid as normal tongue.gif. Everyone seems to be getting the stutter regardless of PC hardware though.
