ddr2 ram

Thread Starter
i was planning on getting a new computer and i wanted an asus crosshair , amd x2 4800, 2 gig kit, seasonic 550 s12 energy plus [[ddr2 800 (6400) is the standard memory on the crosshair.]]

what would be the best 2 gig memory kit for it and could i get a higher speed like ddr2 1000 and would it still work?

btw is a lower cas latency better?

what timings are good......is 4-4-4-12 or 4-5-4-8 better? can someone explain which one and why please?

and also is a higher voltage or lower voltage better?

any help would be appreciated :]

I would recommennd the DFI 590 over the crosshair, both are good mobos tho. As for the BEST memory you can get I would say this is it http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820145044. For better value I would just get some quality CAS4 DDR2 800 from Geil, Corsair, OCZ or GSkill, and OC them to run at ddr2 1000 which they will all probably do (this is a nice set, the Egg has a sale on them atm, good buy I think Corsair 6400C4). As for which of the two timings is better, they are about the same really. In general you want lower timings for better performance. Increasing the timings will allow you to hit higher speed. Read this, it will give you a better idea of how to OC on your 590 mobo, and what each of the RAM timings stands for, ie cas, tras, trd, etc. - http://www.nvidia.com/content/nforce...erclocking.pdf. Using higher voltage will allow higher overclocking....the voltage that is listed is under the specs is what is needed to have it run at the stock settings, and what the RAM will be warrantied at.

but i've never overclock before and the reason i wanted the asus was because of the 3 pci slots .

I would need some help with the overclocking of the ram unless i tells you in that nvidia link.... i haven't look at it yet

but thank you for the link :]
