The Corsair CX series isn't great, but they're slightly better than the Kingwin. The biggest issue is that they're "soft" overrated, meaning that the CX500 can provide 500W theoretically, but in practical usage it's more like 450W***. Also the CX series is inferior to the CXv2 series (such as CX500v2) which is essentially the same but with a few upgraded components and higher efficiency.

It's not a bad unit, but there are better and depending on what you paid it might have been a poor choice.

***Compare this to hard overrating that companies like CoolerMaster do, where their 475W PSU is neither practically nor theoretically capable of providing 475W in any situation and in fact blows up at around 380-400W. Soft overrating isn't as abhorrent as hard overrating, but it's still considered poor form.

Hey Thanks! I never thought it was possible till that post on this site smile.gif a updated picture of it

i added a silent 120mm fan to it instead of the tiny 80mm one it had (bottom PSU), its a 250w PSU i use it to power the DVD/CD drive and the fans to extend the life of the main PSU smile.gif

Why go through all that hassle when your current CX500 is more than capable of powering the entire rig on its own? You're just creating yet another point that can fail (and its more likely to with 2x PSU's).

Just use the CX500 and call it a day. A machine with a GTX 460 in there isn't drawing anywhere near the 400w that your CX500 can provide.
