Phenom II 840 "config" & Ram can slow down the computer??

Thread Starter
So I've hear/read things about needing to configure AMD cpus in bios to make them work to their potential, does this hold some truth?

Also reading in another forum I may be slowing my computer down b/c i have 165gb of ram (4x4gb)
I dont understand that statement. is it true or total horse $%^!

That only applies if you are trying to OC, if you are not overclocking, having all four slots DOES NOT SLOW DOWN YOUR COMPUTER.
Filling all four slots can make it harder to get a higher cpu OC or overclocking the memory.

From what I understand filling all slots will only have an effect if you try to touch the HTT (FSB), which is why BE's come unlocked.

^ That might not be true.... but I guess it's safe to assume that it may depend on the strength of the IMC in the particular processor.  All I know is I have  an x6 E0 rev with 4 DIMMs and putting in the latter two didn't in any way affect my ability to maintain 300Mhz HTT or my highest-possible.

I think it also depends on the motherboard. My 790 board doesn't allow the HTT to be raised with all slots filled, it crashes after a while. My wife's 790G board, on the other hand, has less problem with HTT overclock with all her slots filled. We both have 4x2GB, though mine is DDR3 1600 and hers DDR2 800. I don't know if that matters at all but this is the last time I get a Gigabyte board in a while, this one frustrates me to no end.
