i5 2500k - Overclock - Cooler Master Hyper 212 evo

Hey!

I would like to OC my CPU to 4k with a stock cooler because everyone is telling me that this is posible even with reasonable temps.
So i was searching the web for some tutorial since ive never done ocing before. I used this as a guide: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9e04-5hjk-I (i used 40 multiplier instead of his 45)

Now when i was running prime95 i had temps over 85°C which is pretty bad i guess so i immidiatly shutdown my computer and set to default bios settings.

Can anyone here help me out maybe? what im i doing wrong?

Im using:

Intel Core i5 2500K / 3.3 GHz - LGA1155 Socket - L3 6MB

Kingston ValueRAM - memory - 4 GB - DIMM 240-pins -
DDR3 - 1333 MHz / PC3-10600 - CL9 - 1.5 V -
niet-gebufferd - niet-ECC

1. Did you use the same voltages as the guy in the video?

2. You aren't really doing anything wrong, its just that the stock cooler is horrible wink.gif

85c is way too high.

What voltage are you running the CPU at?

You should be able to get 4ghz with a stock cooler but it shouldn't be running that hot.

i used offset 0.050v -> cpu-z showed 1.300v+ something...

Default at 3.492mhz is 1.230V-1.240V

Anyone maybe can help me overlock to 4k (decent temps)? I updated my rig specs.

I personally no experience with the 2500k (sandy bridge) but with my 3570k (ivy bridge) I have it set at -.100v offset at 4.0ghz and it is plenty stable. You really shouldn't need much or any voltage increase to get 4.0ghz stable.

I only edited the multiplier now to x40 and vcore to -0.050 offset.

this is what i get when i run prime95 for like 2-3mins:

Bought a new CPU cooler: Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO:

337

Can anyone tell me if these temps and vcore are good for this clock?

For some reason i can't get 4.5k stable it always says its unstable with intel burner and prime95 restarts my pc. No matter what i try at 4.5k can't get it stable :/ Maybe it has something to do with my ram?

also i get the 70°C+ temps only with intel burner. prime95 never goes above 65-67°C

Eh Stock is terribad. I was using it and i was hitting 80 C straight off the bat in 3.7 GHZ. Honestly don't OC at all without a decent heatsink stock is terrible and yeah if your hitting 85 in prime, imagine intel burn test. Don't use stock imo its just a huge bottleneck and those high temps kill your CPU more. Get a proper Aftermarket heatsink. Stock is TERRIBLE, barely handles the turbo boost.
