Just wondering what would be more useful to know HTML or Javascript. I can bumble my way through HTML with lots of googling but have absolutely no experience with Javascript. My thoughts are that since Javascript is closer to programing than coding it would be a more usefull language to know because it could help to lead into other languages while HTML is just limited to HTML and wont lead to anything else. What are your thoughts on it?

They're two different things. HTML essentially tells web browsers what a web page will look like, dubbed 'Hyper Text Markup Language', whereas Java is a cross-platform language for building applications able to run on different operating systems.
Oo whoops. Javascript is an extension of Java built into webcode.
( edit )
Just to add - Javascript isn't only used in webcoding.

In that case, I'd go with Javascript. With that said, I don't know much about it. I'm mainly suggesting it simply because it seems more finite. HTML could lead you off into design-world or somewhere else as opposed to Javascript which is pretty much... Javascript -- at least to my understanding.

Another vote for HTML here. I tried learning Javascript first and didn't turn out too well. Went to HTML and got it down, then back to Javascript and it was a piece of cake.

HTML is very easy to learn at the base structure. It's only when you get in to CSS and things that it can become difficult. Coding simple HTML webpages is easy.
