Nintendo 64 and a Dell U2711

Evening Overclock.net, how are we all?

I am looking to use my Nintendo 64 on my Dell U2711 and I am going to be using a VGA to SVideo 3 RCA AV OUT Adapter (not purchased yet), but I was wondering if this will 1) work and 2) have any sound once I have connected my headset to the audio jack on the Dell U2711 (I do this with my PS3 and it works flawlessly, however that is through HDMI).

you need some sort of converter

I use this with my 1080p lg and dreamcast

but it will not look to good, sub 480p on 1080p display
I would use emu that lets you play the game at a higher rez

An adapter will not work. You need some sort of converter box.

For sound however you can easily run the RCA cables through a splitter into the back of your computer soundcards blue input jack. It will then run through your comp speakers, that is what I do for my Xbox 360.

Cheers. smile.gif I did think about using an emu, but after using it for 15 minutes it just doesn't have the same feel. Then add graphical issues in some cases and some games just flat out bugging out It gets annoying.

An upscaler eh? It will probably look pretty decent on a monitor(as decent as N64 can look anyway) the main problem is these boxes are pricey little buggers.

I must admit that it's a little on the expensive side compared to what I was willing to pay, but if I can get an overall better quality in the end and even use it on my 55" LCD out in the lounge, why not? =P

Dude, I think it'll be cheaper altogether to get a TV PCI tuner, plug your N64 to there, and then use a buffer-less software like DScaler to play the console smile.gif


You can also record your footage thumb.gif


BTW, if you're looking for picture quality, get a 640x480 CRT TV. Old consoles look HORRIBLE in HDTVs.
