O ring grease

Thread Starter
Hey guys just a quick question, is it good pratice to apply a wee amount of o ring grease, vaseline on your o ring connections or could this contaminate your system. Thanks
post #2 of 10
There's no need for that at all as far as I know. I haven't heard of anyone greasing their o rings before.

Im just assembling my Laing D5 Vario into the Xspc dual bay res and the o ring you place around the pump body seems as thoe abit of compression will be needed when screwing to the res. O ring grease might help the process??
The o-ring gland (slot) for the Laing pumps is per the Parker O-ring specification. These do not require grease. It is possible that the grease could allow liquid blow-by Your best bet would be to send an email to Laing customer service for the correct answer. If in the USA, contact ITT/Laing at their California office.

O rings for PC water cooling do not require grease. Grease is a contaminant and most major manufacturers don't use it unless necessary. If you have a correct o-ring size, you will get lubricating with the water cooled fluid which is just fine.

Not necessary. The fittings in a computer water cooling system don't even seal out water at the threads so there's no reason for the teflon tape, the fittings seal at the o ring.

Do not use Vaseline on o-rings unless you are sure you know what they are made of.

Some o-rings are made of materials that are broken down by petroleum jelly.

I just wet my o-rings with water before installing them, seems to work well.

Do not use t-tape in your loops at all,any going into your system can damage pump seals-block impingement plate slots-block micro channels in blocks. Something is wrong if you need to use it, systems do not use high pressure and problems usually occur from misalignment when being installed. Grease is also bad idea. thumb.gif
