First Watercooled build, would like some final advice.

Hello

I am building my first custom watercooled rig, which also happens to be my first build in a couple years. I have most of my components chosen, but I still need more feedback on watercooling components.

--

Known For Sure

CPU 3770K

GPU GTX 670 SLI

Case Fractal Arc Mini Black

Mobo Maximus V Gene

Storage Drive (for my Steam games) Caviar Black WD1002FAEX

Still In Question (I need some advice, perhaps)

Boot Drive OCZ Solid 3 SLD3-25SAT3-120G

Keyboard Tt eSPORTS CHALLENGER Pro, but I would like to know if this is a mech keyboard, and if not, I would like some help finding a good, but budget friendly, mech red/black gaming keyboard.

RAM G.SKILL Sniper Series 16GB, but again, if any of you know a better red/black gaming RAM series, do tell.

Sound card ASUS Xonar DX, or a better one if a suggestion comes up

Water Cooling Questions

1.) I was thinking of using XSPC EX 140mm rads. I have heard that these are very good for their slim design and that they are quiet, but are they the best for me?

2.) I plan on using EK blocks for my GPUs, but I would also like to have some sort of red coolant. Should I use clear tubes, and the recommended EK red coolant from EK's shop? Or should I use red tubes and plain distilled water... or is there another, even better option?

3.) Who makes the best 1/2 inch tubing?

4.) What are some good, low noise black fans with red LEDs to go with my rads? Any suggestions would help.

5.) What are some good pumps/reservoirs for my case. I will be knocking out the bottom 3 hard drive bays, so there will be room.

--

As you guys can see, I am in over my head... So any help would be greatly appreciated. And +rep to those who give good feedback wink.gif

Also, to those who have skill in cable sleeving, and would like to make some extra cash, hit me up with a PM thumb.gif

Primoflex tubing is my preferred. I use 1/2inch barbs and 7 1/16 inch tubing in all my watercooled rigs. thumb.gif

Primoflex have all different colours but I normally use clear tubing and use a dye. The reason I do this is because I prefer to have colour in my res.

1) XSPC is, unlike Koolance and EK, quality. Go for it. Or, if you want a very good alternative: Black Ice GT Stealth 140.

2) Save yourself the trouble and don't go for EK. There's a lot of topics in which people complain about the quality of their waterblocks and the even crappier customer service.

3) Tubing is tubing, seriously. Just go for the cheapest one in your preferred color and you should be fine.

4) I can't answer that one unless I know just how many and what size of rads you'll use.

5) I have the XSPC X2O 750 Dual Bay Reservoir and I'm happy about it. smile.gif

Then onto your parts...

It could just be me, but I find 100$ for a midi case expensive. For only 40$ more you have one of the best cases out there, an NZXT Switch 810.

I'm not an expert when it comes to PCI lanes, but the technical details of the Maximus V Gene tell me that it only has 20 lanes available, which means - as far as I understand these things - you can run a SLI config in there, but they will both only run at 8x speeds. I'm not sure if that's what you want. If you want to run your GPUs at full speeds, I'd recommend you to pay about 40$ more for the ASUS Z77 Sabertooth. It supports true/full SLI and can even run a third GPU as well.

According to this review, the keyboard utilises a rubber dome mechanical system. So I guess that's a yes to your question then. smile.gif

About the RAM, if you have money to spare, go for the TridentX series by G.Skill, they're designed for Ivy Bridge. smile.gif

I don't know if paying 70+-$ on a soundcard is worth it. If you really want the best audio, then go for it. If you just wanna game or occasionally play some music on your PC, a soundcard should be fine. However, I don't see the point of having a 7.1 surround soundcard if you don't have a 7.1 (or at the very least 5.1) headset or speakerset.

I've used the PrimoChill Dye Bomb's and have had no issue with build up.

you're best off to get one of the XSPC kits, they are a great was to start watercooling.

Ok. Both rads are about the same price. is one better than the other?

For the fractal case, a 280 on top and a 140 on bottom, both with push/pull fan operations. If I were to go with the Switch 810 (which was my first case choice) a 420 on top, and an either 140 or 280 on bottom.

I was originally planning on going with the Switch 810, but I wanted something smaller so I could easily take it to LAN parties... Something that can still hold a decent custom loop though. Is it really worth it going with a LAN oriented build? I dont go to many LAN parties, but my new school has a gaming club so I'm hoping that will change.

I prefer the Black Ice one, I myself have the GT Stealth 360. They're slim, quiet and perform very well.

I haven't actually tested these, but I read that the Noctua NF-P14 FLX are good. smile.gif
Just remember, the bigger the radiator (read: 140mm in comparison to 120mm), the more noise it'll make.

The NZXT weighs 9.1 kilo, the Fractal Arc weighs 9 kilo. That's a difference of a meagre 100 grams. wink.gif Take the NZXT Switch. smile.gif
