Hey guys..

I was going to build an Ivy Bridge pc, around the 3570k...

But then I realized it doesn't have hyperthreading.

I found a deal for a 2700k and a GA-Z68XP-UD4 for $450

I think HT + higher clock speed is best.

What are your guys' opinions?

I don't exactly have the biggest budget... but it's about 1000 CAD.

That leaves me with 550 for the rest of the system. I think that this is most likely the best way to go at this point.

I have a PSU, Monitor, KB+M, SSD, Sound Card, and Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit.

It seems that it's doable.

Thoughts?

Would the 2600k be cheaper? or is the 2700k the only deal available? afterall the 2700k is just a 2600k with a slightly higher factory clock.

I'm not too sure how important hyperthreading is for you, but to build a good all round system id opt for a 2500k or 3570k and spend the rest on a high end gpu, $550 is doable, Do you also need a case?

Total of $1550 to work with.

$450 to the CPU and mobo, and the rest is history

So, $1100 remains for PSU, Case, RAM, ODD, and GPU.

Thoughts?

Case I want to have a HAF 932 for future watercooling.

I am *Hoping* for a 680

Ram can either be 8GB or 16GB depending if I have room in the budget.

ODD is negligent. PSU I want a quality one, however, I have one that I can use for the time being.

If its pure gaming, you will see little to no differance between a 3570k and a 2600k. Very few games actully use the extra threads, you will not notice. The only way a 2600k is better is if you are doing a ton of heavy threaded work (which gaming isnt)

Yes but here in canada the 2500k or 2600k and a decent motherboard is approximately the same price if not more than the deal I'm acquiring tomorrow.

So my vote goes to the overkill. Amirite?

EDIT: lolz you're in canada too, eh?!

For pure gaming this would be best: 3570K & SLI 670 build (Click to show)
PCPartPicker part list

CPU: Intel Core i5-3570K 3.4GHz Quad-Core Processor ($229.99 @ Newegg Canada)
CPU Cooler: Corsair Hydro Series H60 74.4 CFM Liquid CPU Cooler ($61.98 @ Amazon Canada)
Motherboard: ASRock Z68 Extreme3 Gen3 ATX LGA1155 Motherboard ($139.99 @ Canada Computers)
Memory: Samsung 4GB (1 x 4GB) DDR3-1600 Memory ($24.49 @ Newegg Canada)
Memory: Samsung 4GB (1 x 4GB) DDR3-1600 Memory ($24.49 @ Newegg Canada)
Hard Drive: Seagate Barracuda 500GB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive ($49.88 @ Canada Computers)
Video Card: EVGA GeForce GTX 670 2GB Video Card (2-Way SLI) ($399.99 @ Memory Express)
Video Card: EVGA GeForce GTX 670 2GB Video Card (2-Way SLI) ($399.99 @ Memory Express)
Case: NZXT Phantom (White/Red) ATX Full Tower Case ($139.99 @ NCIX)
Optical Drive: LG GH24NS70 OEM DVD/CD Writer ($17.99 @ Newegg Canada)
Total: $1488.78
(Prices include shipping and discounts when available.)

You do not need an i7 for a pure gaming machine. You will be wasting your budget.

Did you not read my post?!

The 2500k or 2600k + decent mobo is actually the same price if not more than the UD4+2700k I'm picking up tomorrow. wth.gif

However, I appreciate that you took the time to make me a build.

That's 1488 + taxes. Which will ruin me unfortunately.

Thanks though.

Any other ideas?
