Display driver stops responding at random, then I get BSOD on occasion..

All drivers up to date, did it with older drivers

All windows updates installed

Done reinstalls of drivers/driver sweeps etc...

Afraid it's hardware?

I'm only running the 1 GTX580 at stock clocks and i'm getting this

System is all at stock clocks for everything

Yeah I was going to do that but it only happens once every while, could be a week with no dramas then all of a sudden it hits...

try running a stability test on your graphics card.. kombustor, oc scanner, furmark, etc.
at first glance, that looks like hardware

This seems really strange. You should try to find out when it happens.

Happens the errors also in W7 in idle mode or just random nonrelated to the task?
Try some stability tests like Furmark for full load.


And you said you had some Bluescreens? What they are showing?

Thanks for replys - and apologies for my lack of responses to them, got called out late last night.

I get the following errors

On bootup - nvcpl.dll is not a valid win 32 application or nvcpl.dllnot found etc..

When idle at desktop and when I move my cursor around the screen it flickers and the screen artifacts - screen also occasionaly blacks out and then returns the "display driver stopped working and has recovered" over and over again.

When I open a web browser it acccelerates the issue and blue screens can occur after multiple black screen driver crash recovery errors..


This is so strange...Has anyone had this before and successfully solved it? I'm going to reformat windows tonight and see if it has just been a driver/registry corruption of sorts.

nvcpl.dll is the nvidia control panel.. so it looks like something has gotten corrupted along the way.
do you have the same artifact issue in safe mode?

since you've tried the latest drivers and tried rolling back, it could be some other windows drivers that are causing it to crash.
haven't personally had this problem, but repaired a couple with the same or similar issue.

can you try the card in another computer? or try another card in yours?

a windows reinstall could very well get rid of the problem.. up to you if you wanna go that route.
