Well we're moving soon (July 6th) and since my parents are prone to throwing old old stuff in favor of new stuff once they move into a new place they asked me if I could come up with a HTPC solution since right now our amplifier (can't remember which brand but its pretty high end) broke and was sent in for repairs. Current speaker setup is also lacking a tad bit. (its a 7.1 solution right now)
Right now I'm not sure what the speaker setup is like as I have no idea what models they are nor the brands other than the front speakers are "Pro Audio" and are more on the high end spectrum. The rest I don't know about the brands, but according to my mum's friend (who's a speakers guy) the other ones are mediocare and rather low powered.
My question is......is it possible to build a HTPC with a good 7.1 setup for around $1,000USD?
The HTPC would be mainly used for blu-ray movies or listening to CD's. (It'll need 2 HDMI outputs though cause my parents would want 1 output to the TV and the other to the projector)
Any help would be appreciated along with any potential advice. I'll look at my parent's setup tonight to see if I can find out what brand the other speakers are at least.
Cheers

I can move my huge collection of movies from my rig and just store it on the HTPC for streaming if needed. That way my parents won't complain about my rig being on 24/7.
