i highly doubt that your FX chip will be a flop. the architecture of FX series is new to software and OS that we use. that explains why benchmark shows slow/poor performance from BD. this was fix by a windows patch and shows improvements from BD. in real life situation, your chip is good and will perform on how you want it to perform. the only downside of this chip is the power consumption. i wonder if this is true at all. goodluck. im looking for a a fx 6100 as a replacement chip for my burned P II x6 1055t.

Overclock the 8120 into the 4.5 GHz range and you shouldn't be disappointed. If you were strictly a gamer looking for the best bang for the buck on AMD, then the 960T would have been a better choice because of better single-threaded performance and overclockability. But you said you wanted to do video and music encoding too, and for those tasks, an eight-core Bulldozer at 4.5-4.7 easily beats any Phenom II. In some cases, it can even beat an Intel i7.

Make sure that you get the scheduler patch from Microsoft after you get Bulldozer up and running. They managed to fix some of the issues with how Windows was mishandling BD thread scheduling, and it improved things a little bit.

Thread Starter
Thx jsc i plan to update win7 fully for FX optimisation asap after build completes. Im gonna run a few tests with my C2Q in CS5.5 and then when my AMD cpu arrives and all is up an running compare the difference biggrin.gif

As for games, im happy with the quality i get atm so as long as it stays the same or better by any margin im happy. Should i require better graphics i will upgrade the GPU as next priority. Most games i play im at 50-60 FPS constant so no issues for me thumb.gif

I have the CPU coming on the 6/6/12 and the mobo 11/6/12 and i can't order SSD until 12/6/12 lol, So gonna be a wait until then mad.gif
