Why is it that they even care? so what some people want their start button. Dose this matter? why do the need to block it? silly control freaks are silly. If I wanted that kind of treatment I would be using a Mac.

Pretty much the same here, I'd move to Ubuntu full time in an instant if it supported all the games.

Proper title: Microsoft is removing old and unused code to improve security, stability and performance

Sensational title: Microsoft is ripping off and tearing apart Windows 8 left and right just to block everyone from using the old start menu.

Welp, that certainly makes Win7 an XP-like OS for the foreseeable future, in which people will use WIn7 for years until the last support period runs out. I certainly won't move to Win8, and if I get a laptop with Win8 preinstalled I will be downgrading to 7 even if it means contacting the manufacturer for install media at my expense.

Because they will try to sell you an app that brings this feature back perhaps? wink.gif

As I said before, Microsoft, please, make a tablet and desktop/laptop version of Windows 8...
How hard could it possibly be if Apple managed to do it ?
Personally none of this matters to me because Win7 will be supported till atleast 2020, and that's too far off to worry about.

No other gamer or everyday user should be too fussed either. Maybe software developers have a bone to pick with Win8 but that's about the extent of it...

I want to see how this plays out.

Well, if it ain broke, don't fix it. Windows 7 works fine for me at home in several places, and at the office. Oh, and they aren't touchscreen devices either, so I don't intend to be Metrolled. Sorry, Micro$oft.
