i7 2700K @ 4.5GHz / AsRock Z77 Extreme4 - Freezes and/or gives BSOD

Thread Starter
I'm pretty new for overclocking, but would want to get my 2700K to 4.5-4.8GHz.

In pics I have my ram set to 1333MHz and 1,5V cause I did read somewhere that sandy likes 1,5v more than 1,65v.
After getting BSOD and random freezes I also tried default setting for ram (1,65v and 1600MHz), but it had no effect.

I currently have newest Bios 1.60. Had same problem on old one too tough (1.40).

Just seconds before BSOD:

BSOD:

So could anyone tell me where I'm failing at?
I'm getting these random freezes also when computer is idle and BSOD when running IntelBurnTest.

I have also tried setting CPU Voltage to 1.4V with no effect.

Try switching your VTT voltage to manual and raising it slightly, it needs to be raised as your cpu voltage is increased. this is sometimes called IMC (Integrated Memory Controller) on other boards.

spread spectrum: Enable

CPU PLL Voltage: Set manual mode, try booting at 1.5v and decrease untill u cant boot into windows, then bump back up the voltage to where you are successfully booting every time. this will increase your stability and lower your temperatures.

Turn on your XMP profile for your memory. there is a thread testing the theory of 1.65v DIMMs on SB, they work on 1.65v just fine. ( I would keep on 1333 for now until your CPU is stable)

try bumping your Vcore one of two notches, test for stability.

try setting the VTT at 1.1, test for stability. increase if needed, max is 1.2v

What kind of OC are you shooting for? try LLC of 50%, you will need to re-calibrate your Vcore to compensate.

I don't think the BSODs and Freezes are due to your RAM, but due to your OC. Not that there's anything wrong with your OC, of course, it's a 2700K, you bought it to OC. tongue.gif
So, what I would do - if you haven't done it already - is to change the VCore Manual Voltage to 1.45V for a 4.8GHz OC and 1.375V for a 4.5GHz OC. More information about voltages and handy guides on how to stably OC Sandy Bridge can be found here. smile.gif

ok..
the 101 code means u need more voltage for the vcore.
as for 124 it's very complicated it, it could be many things, could be PLL, could be more vcore needed.

question: what number r u looking to get.
cuz back than when i oc my i7 2600k for 4.5 i kept almost everthing in auto, but,
memory to XMP,
memory core auto.
pll around 1.7

don't bother with memory , just XMP, n leave everything on AUTO
disable c3 c6. .
,one thing i am not sure which is : ur Vcore setting.
y i saw u have a lower Vcore than ur BIOS setted up?
do u have an option for off set on ur CPU vcore?
if so try use that for better reliabilty n power saving.

post back plz

I'd use the auto-overclock option for 4.5ghz to get a baseline of what voltages etc you need, then work your way down and fine tune from there.

Raise your cpu vcore a little bit i'm sure it does not need 1.45v! Cpu PLL overvoltage is 1.8v at stock so raise this to 1.835v.
Disable all the C-states C3 C6 etc as this also caused me bsod 0124.

raise your vccio voltage to 1.1v, also set your LLC to level 1 on asrock boards thumb.gif try this and report back

Using now offset Voltage and running 1.4v
CPU PLL Voltage 1.84v
Is the VCCIO same as VCCSA? If yes I have setted it to 1.016v.

Should I also set Package C State Support to Disabled?
I have currently disabled C3, C6 and C1E.

After these setting and running IntelBurnTest for few seconds my computer just shutsdown and restarts. I had HWMonitor on and I noticed that temperature called TMPIN3 is raising rapidly and after 90C my computer shutsdown. It's 40C on idle and gets to 80 in few seconds.

Edit: Just checked again and looks like also pretty much every core in my CPU goes from 40c to 80-90c in seconds.
Edit2: Looks like there is something badly wrong with my cpu cooling. Returning here when I have fixed that somehow.

Edit3: I changed my thermalpaste and still overheating in seconds with OC. I resetted default settings and now running under 60C with IntelBurnTest on Very High. Does my cooling suck too much or what?

raising the PLL is sometimes the answer, but it leads to higher temperatures. most members will tell you to lower the PLL to somewhere around 1.5v and test for stability.

C-states can be left on auto if you are running manual voltage. Enable C1E.

BSOD codes 101 and 124 are BOTH VCore BSODs.

Up your vcore a step and see if it increases stability. If it doesn't, add more.

Also increasing VTT has been known to help with 124.
