[Rage3d] AMD ending monthly drivers, fixing eyefinity tearing

Thread Starter
Guys, take with a grain of salt, but i just came across this in the Rage3d forums posted by "LordJuanlo" not 100% sure if its legit but people there think its credible:
Quote:
There should be a public announcement today, but I have been allowed to share this info right now:

- AMD will end monthly Catalyst driver releases starting with Catalyst 12.5 (which won't exist). They have decided to focus harder on quality and improvements vs regular updates which may not bring many new things. This way there will be no need for two separate driver development paths every month: one to get the official WHQL driver and another that keeps doing the regular driver development.

- We should expect more "hot fixes" and "preview drivers" when new games are released or urgent fixes are required.

- There is a beta driver we are testing right now that fixes the Eyefinity tearing on the third monitor when mixing outputs. I have verified that it works with Souther Islands based cards, so I don't know if it will work with previous cards. Anyway, if no major issues are found, this driver should be publicly available next week.

Source: Rage3d forum post

By the way sorry if this Isnt the right place to post but I went for the rumours area to be safe.
Dont mind if a Mod fixes if theres something wrong with it.

I think its much better this way. Have a big driver like Nvidia which is tested properly.

It was about time they fixed eyefinity tearing, oh well too late for me I already jumped ship... Also they need to implement bezel peeking I would go back in a heartbeat to AMD if they did that...

Well, today's also the day that the 2000, 3000 and 4000 series are moved to quarterly updates. There's some big changes on the way already, so this is really well timed despite the lack of an unofficial source.

Well, this sounds like it's a good thing.

Also someone, member of forum from 3d guru, called the support from amd and they told him that 12.6 beta which will be available with the release of 12.5 will gonna fix the cf/tri-fire/quadfire bsod +eyefinity problems. Hope its truth. More here:

http://forums.guru3d.com/showthread.php?t=363764&page=2
Quote:
I decided to call AMD one last time to find out what is going on with releasing drivers that support multi gpu setups like tri / quad fire + eyefinity, etc.... before I moved to Nvidia.

The AMD rep stated that tomorrow morning you can go to their website under Support & Drivers and type in the search bar located in the upper right "Catalyst 12.6 beta".

He stated that the 12.6 beta will fix the Tri /Quad, eyefinity, BSOD, etc...crossfire issues and will include all previous enhancements/improvements from previous releases. This driver applies to 7900 and 7800 series cards.

Talk is cheap AMD. You have played with my emotions in the past. And there are driver bugs from the past also, which you never fixed.

I think AMD will have to ship their next cards with 12 virgin ladies for me be interested. Either that or actually fix the drivers. I think the virgin ladies is a more likely outcome. smile.gif

Your drivers sux, bulldozers sux, BFBC2 still bugs for me, Skyrim still has terrible xfire scaling. SORT IT OUT!

I like how nVidia does it MUCH better so this is a nice thing to hear.

Trying to meet a monthly deadline for no reason is stupid imo.

Update when needed as needed.
Success.

Whatever helps them keep their promise of improving driver quality. The most important thing imo is being there with a driver for new games day 1. Rage and Skyrim debacles have caused them the most bad publicity in the last year.
