So, some questions:
1. To paint, or not to paint? Yeah that's the question.... The system is using red LED fans via the front, inside, and side intake. I'm going to add blue UV Reactive tubing within the system as part of the watercooling and using UV CC lights for lighting it up. Should the inside be painted, or is it really enough with LED fans and UV lighting within it. I'm having a hard time deciding what to paint and need a bit of inspiration.

2. Wife has no clue any of these components are within the house (yet). Anyone wanna hedge bets on when she finds out? lol

well, at 4 years old he actually asked me if it was a TV (due to the big window on the side)...he honestly thought it was for his Wii tongue.gif

How am I hiding it....well, I've got a closet to myself and after my baby girl was born I had to consolidate my library, clothes, books, collectibles, and computer parts collection into my closet. With having to have a ton of long sleeved shirts and slacks for work, the HAF-X hides nicely in the black darkness under my hanging clothes, so it works well.
How do I work on it? It's one of those pull out real quick and make mods as I get them. I haven't put it all together yet so right now it's a nice collection of smaller boxes of components in a larger newegg box. Plus, it's amazing how many components you can hide inside the HAF-X itself. It's like a closet in and of itself tongue.gif
Ordering the graphics cards this week. We'll see how well I can get away with getting these shipments smile.gif

Change of heart: I'm going nVidia instead of Radeon. Not that I'm a fanboy of either, but if I'm doing folding and yet still will be working within Photoshop CS6, I'm going to need to take advantage of the raw GPU power. I can move up to a Tri-SLI GTX-480 setup which, while it will be enough to bake a turkey within the HAF-X, it will also be an economically wise investment as I can always upgrade later to something and sell the Tri-SLI.

Ordered an nVidia GTX-480, 120mm case fan, 4x Kaze 3000 fans, and have a new idea for the cooling of the case.

Case Mods:
  • I will be painting the 3.5 and 5.25" bays, VGA cooler shroud, PS cover, and VGA holder, front bezel, and top bezel red this weekend. Decided I'm going to drill out the 1/8" rivets, prime and paint, and re-rivet the system based on what I've seen in the galleries.
  • I'm replacing the side panel 200mm fan with a CoolerMaster 200mm red LED fan and the fan currently on the side panel (non-LED) will join the other non-LED fan on top.
  • The 120mm LED fan will be in the VGA cooler to simmer down the GTX-480 turkey roasters.

Cooling:
  • I ordered 4 120mm Kaze 3000 fans from the marketplace (yay marketplace!). I'm going to be replacing the stock Corsair H-100 fans with two of these on each side of the radiator for a push-pull configuration. This will be cooling the CPU.

Predicaments/Questions:
I'm mixed on how far I want to take the cooling with the graphics cards and what phase I want to do. I'm considering either using the dWoods brackets and a single Antec Kuhler 60 for each of the GTX cards. The issue I'll have is finding a place for 3 120mm radiators within the case. Similar to this. This is the cheaper option.
The other option I have (a bit more expensive!) is to get a run the cards in a parallel loop with a single 400mm radiator, pump, and resevoir. Like this.

Option 1: dWoods method
  • 3x Antec Kuhler 60 closed loop water cooling units = $150
  • 3x dWoods brackets = $18
  • Total: $168

Option 2: Phobya 400 method
  • 3x Danger Den DD-GTX480 water blocks = $359.85
  • Phobya xTreme 400 Radiator = $123.97
  • Bitspower Water Tank Z-Multi 250mm Res = $42.99
  • Swiftech MCP655 w/ Speed Control = $104.95
  • Primochill Primoflex Tubing = $22.95
  • 12x Compression Fittings 1/2" ID x 3/4" OD = $113.88
  • Total = $768.59

I'm not really sure how much more difference a custom loop is going to change the thermal cooling within the case more so than the Antec Kuhlers. Some people have had great results with the Kuhlers. Biggest predicament will be finding a place for all the 120mm rads.

Suggestions? Thoughts?

Alright, bezels painted, I've painted the accent parts. I figured out how to get the push button 5.25" drive locks out and they are painted, but for the 3.5" hard drive slots I'm wanting to paint the faceplate but am having a hell of a time trying to figure out how to pull the pin out so the faceplate is the only thing left. Any ideas? I'd love to paint these to match the 5.25" locks.
