i5-3570k - Which Z77 Board - SLI/Overclocking? - Page 3

I have read enough reviews about the Sniper 3 that I decided to get my first Gigabyte MB (After years of ASUS). It will be here tomorrow with my 3570k and I can't wait to see how much of a difference there is from my current 1366 sig rig. biggrin.gif Slip one MB out and the Sniper in, water cooling is already done! wink.gif

I really like the Green on Black. Reminds me of the old DFI Lanparty boards.

I have a G1.Assassin x58 never used just sitting here. D: Wish I could put it to use.

You're going to have one hell of a rig there. Honestly I can't be spending that kind of money =P I will be plenty happy I think with the UD-3H. That should hold up just fine for my needs. I understand that components make a big difference but I really can't justify spending mor eon the mobo than on the CPU =P

So I came home today and my motherboard has once again corrupted my drivers. The passive heatsink on the northbridge is still burning hot, I have a $40 active heatsink coming but it might be time to let this 790i go. I had to move my soundblaster up a PCI slot to get the mobo to recognize it and reinstall.

In all seriousness, if I am not going to break the bank, is the UD-3H a perfectly good enough board to go nuts with OCing and have great SLI performance? I really think that is all I need.

The UD3H is a great board and will serve you well.

The UD3H is the current world-record holder for overclocked RAM, and the UD5 for overclocked CPU.. intel ones, anyway.

In essence they're very similar boards, so, you're good to go. tongue.gif

Sadly the UD3H makes it impossible for me to have SLI and my PCI soundcard so it's out of the equation. Right now the Asrock Extreme4/6 (I might as well just get the 4 cuz there's very little difference) seems to be the best bang for the buck. MSI has no PCI slots, so it is also out. The matching ASUS equivolent of the Extreme4 is about $200 and the Extreme4 is about $135 on Newegg right now so I am pretty sure that is taking the cake right now.

Not sure how I feel about going with Asrock but the reputation is good lately and I guess it saves me money. I just can't seem to justify spending $200~ on the ASUS without there being a significant improvement in the actual components/functions of the board.

I'm pretty sure the 6 has better power phases and an extra slot.

It's also a little bit smaller than full ATX in terms of width, and I can't figure out why they did that.

Yeah I am not entirely sure why either. I literally think it just saves them a bit of money so it can be that much less expensive. So after putting things together in carts.. I can actually get the ASUS P8Z77-V which is like $50 more and actually has mosfet coolers (none of the less expensive asus has top mosfet coolers.. ?) and all the bells and whistles of the Asrock Extreme4/6 + a 3570k for the same price shipped as the Asrock Extreme4/3570k on Newegg.

It works out to ASUS P8Z77-V + 3570k shipped on Amazon for $412.
Asrock Extreme4 + 3570k on Newegg shipped for $410.

This is mostly because prime free shipping and CA tax on Newegg.

I am going to assume that the ASUS is a better board and prices being equal, I might as well go with the Amazon buy? Unfortunately Microcenter is out of the 3570k's and the 2 hour drive to microcenter just isn't worth it to me.

Should I pull the trigger?? =P
