I figured I can't keep using a laptop for everything all the time. So, I was looking to maybe build a new computer. I chose the components I chose partially for quality, but also I wanted a fully black interior on this system. So, I ended up spending a little more in a couple places for the aesthetics, and that was on purpose.

I'm open to thoughts. I'm really not interested in people trying to convince me to go Intel, so don't bother. I'm a fanboy, and proud of it.

I'll mainly be playing Torchlight II, League of Legends, and possibly Skyrim. Also, I'll be running a few music apps like Sibelius, but not a lot of intense rendering stuff.

For your budget and needs, you are better off going AMD anyways. but, get a better GPU. Here is a build I came up with, I tried to make it as black as i could

The 960T is arguably the best gaming CPU that AMD has to offer. I would not hesitate to get it. Thuban is a better architecture than FX anyways
8GB of Samsung low voltage ram. The best RAM out right now, has been commonly seen to do ~2400Mhz. There is no need for more RAM in a gaming rig, if you are running virtual machines, that would be a different story.
GTX 670: An amazing card for the price. It is about 95% as powerful as the GTX 680 and about as powerful as a 7970.
Rosewill Green PSU, a great quality PSU with plenty of power for the GTX 670. Highly recommended through OCN as well.

get the asus m5a99x evo instead of the ud3, it has the new visual bios and my friend has both and his ud3 had some inital issues, and it also tends to switch boot drives around for some reason.

Since they stopped producing them they are getting harder and harder to find...

The Samsung memory that Iron posted is out of stock, too. Shame that the rebate on the CM 690 II Advanced expired a couple days ago; it was going for $50 post-rebate with free shipping. It's still not a horrible deal, though.

Skyrim is seemingly more GPU than CPU-dependent; I was getting above 30 FPS with my shrimpy little Phenom I tripcore and a small overclock, so I would agree with IM's advice re: a better GPU. 570 is kinda overkill if you're not going to be running multiple monitors, though. Just make sure you get something with 2 GB worth of VRAM if you want to mod the game up. It's very hungry for it.

HD 7850s are really starting to drop...

I was considering scaling back to a quad core Bulldozer with 8GB of RAM to open up a little budget room for the video card.

If I were to cut back, price wise, on the video card, I have seen the 2GB version of the HD 7770 GHz and GTX 550 Ti are right in the same price range: affordable. Are these cards worth the ~ $170, and is the ~$250 for the 7850 / GTX 560 Ti really worth the difference if I'm not as hardcore as I used to be?

If it really came down to it, I could continue to play Skyrim on PS3.
