HD 6670 Passive Cooled OC throwdown

Exactly what I said. How fast can you run a 6670 on air only, NO fans.

Why? Well, first because I have one to burn. Second, totally silent computing is nice. Third, this is an overclocking forum- do I really need a third reason? smile.gif

Anybody else have one of these cheap cards & want to try flogging the most out of it?

You can toast any card when passive at any speed if there's absolutely no airflow around it. The limit on what clocks you can achieve while the GPU is passive is what is the actual airflow around it, even if it's produced by the case fans. In a well ventilated case you could achieve a decent OC, but in a cheapo case without airflow it's likely you won't even be able to tun it stock in 2D mode for long.

Well that is true- sort of. If you could force all the air to stand still (by magic?) -and- you had a perfectly insulated case then you would recieve zero cooling.

But this is the real world, in which heat (or more importantly hot air) rises. So, as the heatsink warms up the air around it will rise to the top of the case and be replaced by cooler air from the bottom of the case. This creates airflow without need for a fan.

Since most cases are metal and therefore conductive... there is significant dissipation to outside the case. More than enough in my case -pun intended- to run a hd6670 overclocked 24/7 with no fans other than the cpu & I think I can eliminate that fan as soon as I improve the heatsink.

Of course I have a secret weapon, but it is a secret.

Again, I thro down the gauntlet. Sup? U skeered? tongue.gif
