Any updates? Looking forward to your thoughts as I will be building a new rig soon and have been considering this CPU with the new V formula.

Sorry for the delay , but work has been busy.
This xeon rocks ! Fastest CPU I ever owned . Plays games just fine , more then fine , it screems ! thumb.gif I do not regreat buying this CPU . I did have to bump the voltage up a tad . running at 1.25v all stock other wise . Runs real cool but I am not using the stock cooler . I have a cooler master vertex 2 lying aroung rated for a 125w cpu so bam used that instead . Idles about 36 deg C and 50 C full bore with prime 95 , not too shabby for a cheep cooler .
Interesting thing though CPUZ sees it as a Core I7 3770 under the name but under the specs sees it as a xeon with 8 meg L3 cashe . I would highly recomend this cpu IF you dont want to overclock , hate having a GPU on the CPU , and want to save over getting a 3770 . Its like getting a 3770 at a discount ! I call that bang for the buck !
Next savin for my 670GTX and a faster hard drive . thumb.gif

Curious why did you have to bump the voltage up?

because default voltage was not enough , they had it at 1.09 v , CPU was sluggish . Once I upped the volts a tad it took off like a rocket

i too thought it was odd you had to bump up the voltage on it...but i quess it probably was not much you added..my i5-2500k vcore runs at 1.19 volts, so you are not much above that

glad its working well for ya.....interesting and makes one think maybe the xeon is the way to go......keep us updated, never new anyone that has jumped on a xeon for a desktop cpu.

So far going well , this gigabyte mobo is a tweakers dream , I had to do some voltage settings so the motherboard would not auto drop all my voltages at idle . I like power saving but not at the cost of proformance . I am not all that when it comes to Intel , as I was a former AMD fan . Ended up setting all my voltages manualy very close to Intel specs , but keeping my vcore at .1235 V so it would not drop down at idle to .9V
set LLC to medium at that kept me at about 50 deg C under full load w/prime 95 at full bore . Not too shabby for a cheep HS the cooler master vortex 2 . Probaly Upgrade to water down the road .
Very Happy with my choice ! thumb.gif

Well I will let you know if the sabertooth x77 supports the 1230v2 out of the box as the last of my packages should be here tomorrow from the egg. I also picked up 16gb of Sammie 1600, pcs+ 7850, seasonic x750 and some arctic cooling mx-2. Haven't decided if I will use the stock cooler yet or my trusty true 120. I know the sabertooth was overkill since I know that these multipliers are locked however I wanted an asus board and did not the color schemes on the other z77's. Plus the 5 year warranty is nice.

Yes ! I would be very interested if that worked . I honestly am not feeling the love with this gigabyte board after seeing that sabertooth board I would prefer that one . Like the layout and the intergrated intel lan . Please Post here if it works . would be interested in your experence with the xeon and the sabertooth .

Recognized it straight out of the box. I decided to use the stock cooler instead of my true and was wondering the correct procedure to install the hsf. I just pushed it on straight and plugged it in. Should I have twisted it to smear the stock paste or have done anything else?
