How can I completely rid this system of these unecessary audio codecs?

Thread Starter
Ok, so I have an old Inspiron B130 running XP Pro SP3, and right now I am experiencing audio stutter, so I went it to redo the drivers for audio and I found all of this pointless crap installed.(none of these entries have an uninstall or disable option)

I have tried using Driver Sweeper but that instantly crashes on this system for some reason.... idk why

What can I do to get rid of everything so that I can reinstall the audio driver which should contain all of the audio codecs i should need.

trying to fix this up for my bro
Thanks,

Don't like to be the bearer of bad news, but once you have bad drivers installed and you don't even know which one breaks functionality - imho there's no other way than a reinstall or a repair. An XP repair would have the advantage to keep working all the soft you have installed now, while a complete reinstall would give you a clean sheet. If you're feeling adventurous you can even install the RC of Windows 8 that just launched today:

Did this symptom start after a fresh install of XP, or has the the OS and this comp been together for a while and you only got the stutter now? Also, do you have a TV or sound card installed?

One thing you could try: Uninstall/remove the 1st, 2nd, 5th and 6th entries on that screen shot. Then rescan/refresh the device manager and let xp go online to reinstall whatever it think it needs to reinstall. You may also want to reboot in there, but I'm unsure if that would make a difference.

I also partially agree with the poster above. Sometimes, imo expecially with xp, driver issues can drive you insane and "blowing it up" and performing a clean install might be the most effective use of your time.

*Side note for humor's sake: If you are versed in voodoo and/or have a shaman living nearbye you may want to cast that sort of magic on your computer. Don't forget to dust the **** out of it and smack it around a little. Sadly those remedies work every once in a while.

Except for the sigmatel, those drivers are all part of windows XP. I don't think they can be removed, and if they could, it probably is not a good idea tongue.gif. Remove/reinstall the sigmatel, as that's your sound driver.

Here's a screenshot from my b130 (weird I have the same laptop tongue.gif). Only thing I've added is the EMU0202, a USB sound card.

Ok, so i took dragosmp's advice and did a complete system repair with my installation CD, and it still has the problem...

I have tried changing the power settings, which is something that I have seen online, but none of the power plans have any effect on the issue.

And for clarification, when I mean stutter, I mean an intermittent skip when sounds are being played, and it pops sometimes.
