First high-end rig

Thread Starter
Hello all,
After all these years I finally get to build a NICE rig .... well.... any rig for that matter redface.gif

I was hoping to get some feedback and see where you guys think I may bottleneck or if it seems like this will do the trick.

My intention is to be able to do high-end gaming (Brand new to gaming but want a high quality experience) but it will also be used for encryption/decryption, large file compression/decompression, WHILE running multiple VMs (up to 8 at once) and media. The VMs will NOT be running 24x7.
After reading about Folding@Home here on OCN, I now will be doing this too. wink.gif

looks good to me, no bottlenecks there, psu might be overkill.

If it were me, I'd probably go with a Seasonic X-650 as it is gold rated, where your XFX is only silver. I don't know much about XFX PSUs, but Seasonics are great, and 650 is plenty for that rig.

I'd replace the OCZ SSD with an M4 Crucial. I've always had great luck with my M4's, but heard mixed reviews on OCZ.

Finally, cases are user specific, but the 810 is a monster case thats really built for custom water loops. You could easily drop down into the 100ish range for a good case if your heart isnt set on the 810. I would recommend the 690II Advanced as a great replacement.

I'm planning on getting another 670 later down the road running in sli. do you think the psu would cover that or should I still drop down to a 650 watt and maybe get an 850 watt when I get the other 670?

also down the road I plan on doing a custom loop that goes to both GPUs and the CPU.
FTW :)

I wouldn't drop to a 650w if you plan to run SLI. 750w should be fine, but you may consider going to at least Gold instead of Silver. The PSU is more or less the most important part of your box, and stability & efficiency > watts. Silver is probably fine for a single GPU, but once you tack on another high-draw device, you want to make sure your voltages stay stable. Most (if not all) XFX PSUs are made by SeaSonic and just modified a bit.
