I'm going to try a nVidia card for a change.

Well, I was interested in trying a nVidia card for a change instead of AMD. I heard that Intel in combination with nVidia works better than ATi, but I'm not very sure about that. I looked at the GTX670 benchmarks and was really amazed of its performance for price.

Is it worth it, to upgrade from a HD6950 to a GTX670? And, will it work better with my Intel processor (or is that just a fairy tale) Will it handle Crysis with stable 60fps on 1080p (no multiple screens and stuff) ?

Well its not that Nvidia cards work better with Intel procs, its that Intel procs are better and faster processors than AMD so youll get a little better performance out of any card when paired with an Intel chip as opposed to an AMD one.

As for which card, the GTX670 is most definitely a worthy upgrade from a 6970. Excellent card and overclocks well.

Here's a comparison on Anand's bench comparing the 6970 and GTX670. As you can see, its nearly a 100% improvement in some games.

On average a 670 will be a good 45-70% faster, depending on the test.

No, I don't think that nV 'works better with Intel'.

Original Crysis is quite CPU-dependent ... it takes a LOT of CPU power to hit a stable 60fps ... like a Sandy/IB at 5.0GHz kind of fast. It also tends to favor AMD, partly because it's also heavily memory bandwidth-reliant, and the latest AMD generations have a had a plethora of memory bandwidth.

Because of these factors, overall the improvement you see on Crysis will be in the lower end of the spectrum (i.e. probably closer to 45% than 70%).

Games where you get the full 70% will be the DX11 games, esp. the ones that use tessellation ... and Skyrim, which just loves nV.

Thanks for your reply, but I have a 6950, so I guess it'll be double-worthy? biggrin.gif

probably an extra 5-10% improvement. I have a 6950 as well (2 GB model), and I will soon be doing the same upgrade, though I want a 680 for e-peen lol. I'll soon be spending almost $500 for my watercooling setup, so I want to have the best card in it, even if it is just a marginal difference.

Ok, I've heard and read great stories about the MSI GeForce GTX 670 OC! Will that be a "good" GTX670? Or do you guys have another card to recommend?

Not worth it. I dont really care for paying for a factory overclock when I can do it myself for free. Id just get the base EVGA or MSI model and overclock it yourself. Itll save ya $20 or more.

Well the extra $20 between the EVGA GTX670 and the EVGA GTX670FTW is definitely worth it, IMO. It is on the full size 680 reference board, and uses a better cooler.

EVGA GTX670FTW is a pretty sweet looking card, if I were to order a GTX670, that's the one I would get, oh wait. I did, last night wink.gif
