965 BE vs 1045T? - Page 3

I'm assuming the Athlon II has stock cooling? 2.6 is kind of slow. I think you might see an improvement with getting a 965BE,but your graphics card may be a bottleneck as well, especially if the graphics card is doing the rendering in AE. You really wouldn't benefit from a 6 unless you do a lot of multi tasking.

Yes it is entire stock. I do a fair amount of multitasking actually. Sometimes I record gameplay with Fraps, and sometimes I'll actually be creating 3d effects in After Effects while tabbing out to finish up photos or reply to emails.

You might want a FX-8120,it's not quite as fast a Phenom II 6 core in clock vs. clock, but usually cheaper and better in multitasking situations.

Yeah that's the other one I was looking at, but I'd have to get a new motherboard to fit. I did some research on newegg and I can get a new Asus mobo + 8120 for like 230 which isn't TOO bad, but kind of a challenge at this point. Though, it would be really beneficial to video.

I've spent 13 hours rendering video today alone, and that is why I was looking at a new CPU haha

OK, sure. There are exceptions to every rule. I should have said "the vast majority of games don't benefit from the fifth and sixth core." Happy now? If anyone out there uses their PC as a dedicated BF3 playing rig and doesn't want Intel, the Phenom II X6 is highly recommended.

If I CAN, I might just get the fx-6100 or 8120.
If the manufacturer provided a new BIOS that can recognize the FX processors, you can use them on an AM3 board. I don't see any FX processors listed on the support list for your board. Even if they did make a BIOS that supported it, running an FX on a regular AM3 board is not recommended by AMD and usually doesn't work well.

If you do that much video rendering, and you're not ready to change motherboards, you really should get a Thuban if you can find one. Rendering uses all of those six cores even better than Battlefield 3 does.

I really do. Between yesterday and today, i've collectively done just over 16 hours of editing with a fair amount of that rendering. It's not that I am opposed to getting a new am3+ motherboard, it's just that I am on a shoestring budget, but want to try to work an upgrade in anyways.

There is always a chance of just holding out and dealing with the athlon for now until I CAN buy an 8120 + mobo.

Just an update:

I bought the 1045t from Newegg on Friday (It's deactivated now! I wonder if I got the last one?) and I am confused about something. I looked up the 6 core support for my motherboard (M4N68T-M V2) and it says that it supports the 1100t, but can't really find any info on if it supports the 1045t. I sure hope it does...Anyone have any info on this? Apparently I was looking at the wrong page. It does indeed have support for the 1045t.

Thank you to everyone for their input. I am excited to finally make this upgrade!!

I have read reviews that the 1045t in combination with my board is not such a great idea because "it can fry the VRM's". I don't know what that means and how can I prevent it without buying a new motherboard? Is there a chance that if I am rendering a huge video file (hours of 1080p rendering) that I could end up destroying my computer? Please help!!

^ No, since ASUS boards have VRM protection techniques.  However, reliability of operation will be sort of niffy as a result of these protection techniques and the weak VRM setup.  If you do frequent video rendering/100% CPU load, I recommend as a minimum you invest in a board with a 6+2-8+2 phase VRM system with proper cooling, for the best long-term reliability.

Okay. What if I purchased an after market CPU cooler for the time being? Would that be a bit safer or would stock be just fine? I am not going to overclock the CPU on this motherboard at all. I just want to run it stock. Again, I sometimes render out video which is usually 100% load, but more often that that, I play video games.

at stock settings your not going to get everything out of a PH II X6 as you can I had your board befor I moved up to a Sabertooth boad and the best I could get out of my 1090T was 3.6Ghz and that was with a H100 cooler and that was only in the winter with a 80mm fan zip tied to blow on my VRM's here is what I can do on a 8+2 board
