ok so im replacing my corsair xms3 2x4 with some corsair vengance i ran across a few problems first i didnt check to see if they would fit under my noctua nh d14 lmao, second since i was at microcem2anter i picked up 2 sets of 2x4gb vengance (cmz8gx3m2a1600c9) now the reason i bought 2 seprate sets was becouse they didnt have a quad set in black they only had blue and i wanted it to match my crosshair (sig rig below)
well i was trying to find some good rams for my 1100t bow i know that the vengance dont really fit unless i get the lowpros but i came arcoss a set on frys and wanted to know if theres any diffrance between these two sets seeing as how they have 2 diffrent part numbers like
would my 2 sets operate in a quad channel ? (frys CMZ16GX3M4A1600C9) (microcenter cmz8gx3m2a1600c9) now i am returning these vengance so i will be looking into buying some new ones that fit under the noctua i just dont know with what to go with i dont wana spend more than 150 on them and they got to be atleast 16 to 32 gigs of ram i live in houston so i have a cupple stores to choose from odering online isnt an option cuz i need the asap becouse i have sold my xms3 already lulz i got directron microcenter and frys and a full tank of gas biggrin.gif and yea im ocing my 1100t and yea i want all that ram i work on this desktop doing alot of heavy stuff that uses ram thanks to all in advance :thumb

If you want something low profile but will still run very cool get these.. CML16GX3M4A1600C9

Thats what I used with my 1100T and Im still using them with my fx8150. They scored a 7.8 for me in WEI.

When I ran them with my 1100T I could not get the system stable running them at 1600Mhz. So I ran them at 1333Mhz and it was 7.6-7.7 in WEI.

It might have been either something I was doing wrong or my motherboard. Ive read somewhere that am3 can only support up to 1333 but I know for a fact its 1600. Many reviews on the ram people have mentioned running an 1100T and got them to run at 1600mhz. I just could not for some reason.

The ram is pretty fast and its more than enough. I thought about selling mine but I think Ill keep it. Its working great and I got it for a cheaper price than what its selling for now.

Other than that, you could go with g.skill, ive heard nothing but great things from them. if you plan on upgrading to am3+ eventually, get 16gb gskill 1866mhz

OP-

No AMD CPU/mobo currently offers quad channel RAM operation. They all have dual-channel RAM and typically (4) DIMM slots. If you need or have software that can use more than 8 GB. of RAM then 16+ GB. might offer an advantage. More RAM does not offer much if any increase in system speed however and it can be a poor return for the cost if your software can't take advantage of it.

While mixing of DDR3 RAM is never recommended because it's a crap shoot you can give it a try. According to Corsair mixing (2) of the same part number RAM Kits are NOT guaranteed to run at the same speed, latencies or voltage as a single RAM kit. That is why it's best to buy ONE matched, tested RAM kit whenever possible.

After installing the two RAM kits I would run Memetest86+ to confirm no errors. When mixing RAM it's recommended to try manually setting the specified frequency, latencies and voltage for the RAM. If that doesn't work without errors then you can loosen the latencies and up the RAM voltage to ~1.65v. With (4) DIMMs on an AMD mobo you may also need to up the CPU-NB voltage slightly to eliminate RAM errors.

IME most of the name brand RAM will run just fine on your mobo (when NOT mixed), especially if specifically approved for AMD CPUs. In theory ALL RAM should play nice on all CPUs/Mobos but reality has shown this is not always the case. The better RAM makers advise if their RAM is suitable for both AMD and Intel CPUs as the Internal Memory Controllers (IMC), are slightly different.

Phenom II CPUs *officially* support RAM up to 1333 MHz. Most people are able to OC the RAM to ~1600 MHz. with a Deneb and ~1800 MHz. with a Thuban model CPU.

The links below should help you. Disregard the hate and technical ignorance spewed by some folks who have difficulty dealing with objective, scientific test data that refutes their subjective opinions.

AMD keeps upping the IMC in their CPUs. FX's by default run RAM @ 1866 MHz. and the next upgrade will support 2133 MHz. While these frequencies are not needed at the moment for a single CPU as ~1333 MHz. shows no bottleneck on a desktop PC, the higher RAM frequencies will be good for multi-CPU server or possibly future single CPU applications. The links above show why 1333 MHz. -1600 MHz. RAM is the sweet spot on DDR3 RAM based on cost vs. performance, at the moment.

Yup some folks have gotten the Samsung RAM up to 2000 MHz. It really depends on your CPU (IMC), mobo and the DIMMs. It's possible that your 1100T might be able to run the Samsung @ 2000 MHz. but ~1800 MHz. is more common on a Thuban model for max RAM frequency.

Objective, scientific RAM testing has shown that you most likely won't be able to tell the diff in RAM performance above ~1333 MHz. in real apps anyway, but it's fun to see how high you can OC the RAM. wink.gif
