Going to be ordering the parts for my first computer build very soon and wanted some help in choosing a motherboard.

I'm really leaning towards the Gigabyte board but the main reason holding me back is the Xpert Fan control on the Asus board.

Boards:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813131819

This is the case I'll be getting:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811124144

It comes with 5 fans and I'll be using the Corsair H100 as cooling so I'll have 7 fans overall. More so, this computer will be coming with me to college so I really need some control over the fans so as not to disturb my roommate. Does anyone have experience with the Asus Fan control that could fill me in a little on how it works? Will the Xpert Fan control even be able to handle 7 fans? I'm fairly new to all this biggrin.gif
Also, what does Smart Digi+ do, and does it get you "a Blazing Performance Boost and CPU Wattage Cut in Half!"?
Finally, what board do you guys suggest?

Thank you all in advance smile.gif

Gigabyte has mSATA, a POST code LED readout, one more SATA port, voltage read points, and onboard power/reset/clear CMOS buttons. I've used a Gigabyte GA-Z77X-UD3H for a customer's build and it is a real solid board. The 3D bios is pretty cool to work with and I prefer it over my P8Z68-V Pro (AFAIK the Asus Z77 boards use a very similar bios). So the Gigabyte is definitely my choice for the better feature set and my great experience with the lower end UD3H.

It looks like they both have a similar number of fan headers. I would just run all the fans off a fan controller and put the main ones on the radiator on the 4 pin headers. Either board has a few 4 pins so either can control a 4 pin PWM fan.

Are voltage readout points just to see if certain parts of the board are getting power?

In b4 Sin..My vote goes to Asus pro..then Biostar z77 with the "13 phase"
..Maybe even the Biostar is better...

How come? Just wondering.

I'd go with the UD5H, only because I already have one. BTW, do you need the included WiFi and Bluetooth adaptors that come with that particular model? If not, there's one that's the exact same thing, but without the adaptors for like $30 cheaper.

Personally I'd wait for the Asus Maximus V Formula. It should be coming out any time now and when I was looking for a 1155 mobo for my 3770k I wasn't happy with any of the selection so that was the board I was waiting for. It's been delayed for a while now but rumors says it should be released by E3. I guess it all comes down to what features you want and the price you're willing to pay.
