PC bsoding after i have put ram in slots 1/2

So i was planing to upgrade my ram from 8 to 16 gigs next week.I had a problem that my kingsston hyperx wouldn"t fit in slots 1/2 because of my cooler.I improvised, took the cooler off, somehow turned it around and pushed it back a bit and i got few milimiters i needed. Then i installed my ram in slots 1/2 but afer few minutes i had a bsod. I checked temps they where ok so i took my RAM out, cleened slots and contact points with alcohol. It was running for 8 hours and bsoded again.I started it and ran memtest. It crashed in 20 seconds. I took ram out and turned it back into slots 3/4.It"s running stable under memtest now. Are my slots dead? Am i gona need to rma my mbo or what? I got this error when i ran memtest with ram in slots 1/2.I have an asrock 890 gx extreme 3 + phenom 1055t.

It could be slots but I also noticed that your system is OC'd. This little added stress the the memory controller might cause your OC to become unstable. I would actually recommend going back to stock settings and ensuring the memory timings and voltages are correct first, then moving on to the OC if you're stable after doing that with all sticks installed.

well i did some searching, in ASRocks manuall it"s written that if i"m using 1600mhz memory it"s recommended to put it in white slots, not blue. And yeah it works in white slots, not blue. But what happens when i have 4 stick of memory and fill up everything ? I have sent an email to asrock, i hope that in worst case scenario i"ll have to downclock my memory to 1333

So after i tought it was stable at 1600mhz at blue slots i had a bsod yesterday. Even after putting everything back to defaults it bsoded after 15 minutes of memtest running. This board really pisses me off, i don"t understand what"s wrong. It runs fine when memory is in white slots.

So the system runs fine when you have two sticks in the white slots, but if you put all four sticks in, you BSOD / memtest fails at 1600? You may need to up the DRAM voltage a little bit.

No, if i put 2 sticks in blue slots it crashes, i put them into white, it works fine. I have solved the problem btw. My firend that is working in a service told be that he is familiar with the problem and that all ASRock boards from 7xx ,8xx series won"t run over 1333mhz in blue slots. I"ll have to run my mem at 1333 but i will turn down timings a bit. Also i"m going to get ma other 2x4GB today so i"ll have 4x4 smile.gif
