The AMD How To Thread - Page 13

Anytime I try to watch youtube, screen starts to flicker & the whole screen mostly turn blue & black.... These cards aren't worth all this trouble...

Another thing, if I have a folder on top of a browser, then I move the folder, the folder leaves a black tail with it....

I looked in... C/Windows for the MM.CFG, but couldn't find it...

Edit mm.cfg and add/edit this line: ProtectedMode = 0
Windows 32bit: C:\windows\system32\macromed\flash
Windows 64bit: C:\windows\syswow64\macromed\flash

EDIT: The youtube problem only happens when I disable Crossfire....

The flickering still happens & the line in AB Config has a 2 in it already...

I already touched on this subject. You chose to do unofficial. Two things you can do, hit the reset button on AB or set AB to not autorun and instead run it before you game. I think you need to re-read the why flicker happens and disable gpu acceleration in your browser and flash apps.

Btw, all flash installed OS' have that folder in either 32 or 64 bit versions. Why you can't see it, I don't know? Did you unhide known file types yet?

It depends. There is a lil less flicker with official, but your cards will idle higher clocks in official. I prefer unofficial cuz I don't like my cards running hotter so I will deal with the slight flicker.

Note on the flicker. Flicker happens anytime clocks change on the desktop. Any apps that requires gpu acceleration will induce a clock change. Apps like browsers, flash, media players, etc all can use gpu acceleration can do this. It is just something you have to acknowledge and understand.

Now the crux of the issue is Powerplay which is the AMD process that changes these clocks when it senses load. The problem is we want X clocks to run all the time on the desktop and for it not to start jumping into the various clocks settings which AMD calls powerstates. In official mode, you cannot control these powerstates so whatever Powerplay chooses you under its control. In unofficial mode you can choose to ignore Powerplay and set up your profiles how you see fit. There is a bug where sometimes AB cannot keep up with Powerplays clock switching and you will notice a flicker when watching something like youtube. In this case you can simply hit reset in AB and it will reload your 2D profile, and shortly after will drop your clocks back to idle.

For me, I'm ok with this bug cuz it doesn't bother me because I realize what's happening. It's not frightening or alarming when you know why. Watch the video and you will see AB and Powerplay fighting it out which should give you a better understanding.

I'll reset AB & I'll make sure unhide file types is checked...

Unhide file types is uncheched. All I see is MMS Config & it's only two lines...

Okay I listened & didn't skip over anything. I did the Official OC method. No flickering so far, Youtube runs great, nno cuts in desktop, Folders doesn't blur. This worked out great for me. I hope others try the official method. The guide is great, as long as you be patient & read everything correctly... As you can see below, Thanks once again TSM

Adjust your power limit, else you may throttle in games.

Nice info I think I'll have to try Trixx to get past my max for afterburner. Afterburner right now is at 1305c 1300mv, 1750mhz 1700mv on RAM.
What do you think I can do with these GPU's with Trixx

Well considering that at 1.3v which is really anywhere from 1.27v to 1.23v after vdroop, I would definitely think that you will see a gain. Being able to use more volts would allow you to get over that vdroop hurdle.
