Still didn't work, 2D clocks wont apply when on 2D applications or just viewing desktop. As of the moment, its full time 3D clocks. (Just some added info: 2D clocks were at 500/150 only if you'd hit apply on the stock clock values) However, when clicking Ok to the profile management tab, 3D clocks go in full state.

Question, Is it perfectly safe to run my GPU at 3D clocks 24/7? The current state is 1100mhz/1600mhz. Core voltage is 1138mV, memory voltage is 1525mV, is that Ok for the GPU? I am planning to just leave it at constant 3D clocks if its perfectly safe so I wont have problems with stutters and downclocking. If I'd do so, should I also enable force constant voltage?

Any Ideas? Thank You for all the help guys!

If you have 3d clocks all the time then you should check for programs that use the 3d clocks. Thats why AB cant change profiles. On the msi AB press i its next to the model of your card and the driver version. There you can see what 3d programs you run

GENIUS!!!!!! Only problem now is my browser is a 3D application, weirdly. Is there anyway to make the application not to use 3D settings? Thank You!

BTW what MSI AB version are you using? Would this work on 3.0.0 beta 9? Since when I used that I also got constant 3D clocks, didn't know about 3D applications running.

What I suspect is that at the default +20 setting, the setting is not taking full effect so throttling happens. Perhaps the card is only able to get up to +10 or something. Thus the exta headroom from the +50 just ensures that your card can hit the max TDP that is allowed.

In layman's terms the boost cards aren't able to take advantage of the maxing the Powerlimit and this hack allows the boost card to hit the original Powerlimit target. I'm still skeptical but I cannot deny that it seems to work for some ppl so you can give it a try too.

Making me wanna try it for folding reasons... wth.gif

Exactly, but sometimes its harder to disable gpu acceleration and it doesn't help that browsers are not on the same page as the driver and both are very suspect in this problem. It's also another added variable with boost cards, they seem to be affected by this most often.

We use the GPU to composite when scrolling (and for any other kind of heavy drawing, but I guess scrolling is the most common heavy drawing operation). Even though what we're doing is pretty straightforward (should be comparable to what Aero does, for example), I guess it triggers drivers to go into a high-power-consumption mode. Sounds like Nvidia fixed that in their September 2011 driver update.

I don't think we have an alternative here. Trying to figure out why ATI drivers enter a high-power mode, and coming up with another way to do what we do that doesn't use trigger it, seems unproductive. Only driver developers can really know what triggers that mode, and they are also best placed to do something about it.

People can turn off GPU compositing in Options / Advanced / General if they want to minimize GPU usage.

Note how the guy from Mozilla says "minimize" and not something more concrete! A problem with this however is that it doesn't always work and you have to disable Aero as well to stop GDI acceleration. Mozilla guy goes on to say...

Quote:
The problem isn't really in firefox, it's probably a side-affect of GDI acceleration in Aero or something, but it'll be a lot harder to say anything sensible about it.

It doesn't help that AMD is carefree over this bug.

I am usually running CometBird as my browser, it, on my experience, has been a bit faster than chrome. However when using Chrome 3D clocks does not kick in. Also, when the Monitor "sleeps" but the PC does not, the GPU 2D clocks becomes 300/150, but when you start a 3D application, close it, 2D clocks become 500/150 until the monitor would "sleep" again.

Hey tsm106, sugarhell was right, the 3.0.0 betas work.

I am currently using beta 10 and it works like a charm, 2D clocks are always 300/150 biggrin.gif

I just disable the reset screen though since it can be irritating when I'm just opening up my 3D browser lol.

So here's what I did, uninstalled old MSI AB via control panel, clicked NO when prompt to save settings, downloaded the new one and ran an install.

It now comes as one .exe but has two installers, AB and RTSS.

I installed it to a different path for both AB and RTSS (instead of Program Files x86, I went with just Program Files biggrin.gif), Completed the installations, placed the RC11 files, opened AB, rebooted when I was prompted, then I came back to open AB, used the easy way of using Unofficial Overclocking without powerplay support, it asked a AB application restart, prompt came up and I clicked Yes which was basically just the EULA. installed the patch, reboot again and finally opened up AB. 1st thing I did then was tick the voltage thingys, set up my profiles then did the Profile Management thing under Profiles tab. Next thing I know it works like a charm. biggrin.gif Thanks to sugarhell, I was able to find out about open 3D applications causing me to believe that the automated profile management was faulty. Once I closed all 3D apps, its smooth sailing.

Thank You to all those whom helped, and special thanks to tsm106 and also sugarhell. Couldn't have done it without you guys. Hope you can help some more dudes like me.biggrin.gifthumb.gif

Only downside to beta 10 was that it had an expiration date. rolleyes.gif Would have to do all of those again once the 3.0.0 gold non beta version comes out.

In other news, is my OC any good guys? Any feedback would be nice. Core:1100mhz@1138mV, Memory 1600mhz@1525mV. Voltage values were given by MSI AB. BTW is core voltage (of MSI AB) the same with VDDC? Furmark said my VDDC was 1.175, however my core voltage is just 1.138. Thanks!

EDIT: Spoke too soon rolleyes.gif 2D clocks become 500/150 when 3D application was used and has been closed. After monitor "sleep" it goes to 300/150 again. Still happy with the results though. biggrin.gif
