2x Western Digital Blacks slowed down

When I first got my 2x 1TB Western Digital Blacks and put them in Raid 0, they were doing about 220MB/s writes and 250MB/s reads. Now on this new build, they seem to be doing 120MB/s writes and 190MB/s reads, i'm not 100% sure it's related to this build or not.

Anything that can be done to fix this without breaking the raid array, and testing the drives separately? I'm unable to check SMART with the raid array. I'd rather not have to transfer 1TB off of these to fix this.

Any ideas?

Which ports did you build the raid on?

2 x SATA 6Gb/s ports with RAID 0,1,5,10 support
4 x SATA 3Gb/s ports with RAID 0,1,5,10 support
2 x SATA 6Gb/s ports with RAID 0,1 support

I'm going to assume you put the m3 on one of the intel chipset SATA 6Gb/s
Then you could have put your raid on two of your 4 intel chipset SATA 3Gb/s
And try the optical drive on one of the offchipset 6Gb/s

I used the 4x SATA 3Gb/s ports. Optical drive is on these too, i'm never heard of that slowing down hard drives though.

The M4 is on the Intel 6Gb/s. Marvell controller disabled.

Try moving the optical drive to the off chipset sata 6Gb/s.

Well I don't know if this "helps" but when I did format C a month afo (on same rig) I started to notice my WD Black 2TB goes into "sleep mode" or something. (and my samsung spinpoint as well ???!!!)

Everytime I'm doing desktop stuff (browsing etc) it's on my C (WD Raptor)

But when I need something that's on my D (WD Black) it needs to spin up again...

It never did that before (at least not that I could remember it...)

I never heard the spinn up noise nor had the feeling I had to "wait a few seconds" to acces the drive...

So maybe it's some kind of (windows) update who is messing arround with (power) settings or something...

And that might be your problem as well. Try to measure it 2x after each other. Maybe the first measurement is also when your drive has to spin up

Strange removing the optical drive fixed it. However, even moving that over the the marvell controller and the problem returns.

No matter where I hook it up, it slows down my RAID array. This makes no sense.

Fixed.

SSD and Optical on Intel Sata 6GB/s.
2x Blacks on Intel Sata 3GB/s
Marvel controller disabled.

SSD and blacks still perform correctly, but any other combo hurts my blacks. Strange, but it's working! Rep handed out.
