You'll be fine with a 6870, 560Ti, 6950, etc etc. So long as you're not playing at 800x600 or 720p, your GPU choice will probably suffice well so long as you don't get a 7970, 6990 or some other uber-high-end card.

that cpu will handle most single gpu's (not all)
but stay away from the top of the line gpu's
I'd go with something like a 560ti or 460 gtx

nope
you need a better cpu for that
you'd be pushing it even with a cpu OC

I don't think so

BTW a 6970 is better the a 6950

IDK on ATI's side
but a gtx 460 or 560ti would be the best I would use
a 460 or 550ti would be right at home in that system
you may be able to pull off something abit better, but you would need to OC your cpu

IDK 100%
I'm not a big ATI guy
but it might if the cpu was over clocked
you might want to get some info from others on that card

EDIT
if the card does work will in the system, then you could add a second one down the line when you have a better cpu

You could if you wanted to but you'd be missing out on a lot of room that the GPU's offer, unless you overclocked your CPU. Even then you might miss out on some power.
