6870 enough to run 1080p in most games?

Hi everyone, I'm planning to get a 1080p monitor soon as an upgrade from my current 1366x768 monitor, but would my 6870 be enough to play most games? like TF2 maxed out, GTA IV medium settings etc. i've been able to play most games near-maxed out. BTW my card is flashed to a 925mhz bios instead of the original 900mhz

I would say it should be able to no problem. using a single 6970 i could handle most games at higher/ultra settings. I'd say even if a frameloss of 10fps per game would still allow a great framerate and graphical setting with it.

just run the gpu ai in quality and surface enabled ,and should be enough!and the look difference is so subtle i dounnt you ll notice even on a 40 inch screen

At high settings (using 4xAA) with newer games, you'll be hovering in the low to mid 30's at 1080p which is okay (not actually fast enough for me). Just use a combination of med & high settings and you'll be fine thumb.gif

Do not upgrade unless you really feel the necessity while playing a game. HD 6870 might not be able to max out settings in BF3, Crysis 2 . But other less demanding games will run fine maxed out. Also if you wait for a while prices on HD 7800 cards will fall soon. Later when required pick up a HD 7870 for around USD 250 - 270. thumb.gif

I know I'm not as picky as most but I game with a 6870 @2560x1600 with AA off. It is still a strong card. All games are very playable. biggrin.gif

in gpu the usual best setting is quality!as for aa 4x is plenty higher you wont notice the difference visually as long as you dont gigazoom like some silly place like tomhardware do!if you cannot notice the difference at arm lenght distance without gigazooming then there is not difference lol!

If you're willing to play at medium settings the 6870 will be fine.

I have a 6870, with BF3 i play with a mix of high/medium settings, no AA or AO (1080p). I do notice some stutter in certain places, mostly on the B2K maps but nothing bad. If i turn everything down to low it's silky smooth everywhere.

On the heavier maps i average about 55-60(B2K) and on smaller maps like Seine Crossing it's about 70fps.

I can say it will run all my games maxed out except BF3. BF3 runs fine on high preset and gets ~40FPS. GTA4 maxed out will run ~50FPS but the game won't allow you to completely use all 1GB of your VRAM unless you change it.
