I don't get all the hate. This could be an amazing gaming HTPC mobo. Create your own very flat HTPC plexi case and you can play anything on your big telly and watch any movie in a beautiful package. For people with a lot of money this is brilliant.

New Details on ASUS ZEUS Emerge
A star attraction at the motherboard section of ASUS booth was its ZEUS Dual-GPU X79 concept motherboard. We got a chance to talk at lengths with people at ASUS about the exhibit, and learned a few details beyond what we already know. To begin with, ASUS is likely using a pair of "Southern Islands" family discrete mobile GPUs, not desktop ones. Further, it's likely that the GPUs are 28 nm "Pitcairn" based. The two GPUs are installed in CrossFire configuration. The next big detail is that the design focus on [evidently] isn't the integrated dual-GPU, but to demonstrate the first Thunderbolt-equipped X79 motherboard. The ZEUS has not one, but two Thunderbolt ports. The third (and most depressing) detail is that it's "highly unlikely" that the ZEUS will ever make it to the market. Think of it as yet another tradeshow concept by a big company.

....Why though? Why not just put 1 desktop GPU instead of 2 mobile ones? Hell, why even do this at all??!

I think this is an excellent idea. For all you saying, "But I can't upgrade". You're really gonna spend the money on an upgrade without getting a new motherboard? I personally like the advances in memory and other components that comes with new revisions of the chipset. I think you all are going to be shocked at how huge a reduction in price this is going to be when compared to buying the stand alone products one at a time. If you're not happy with SB-E and Two 7970s for around $1700 then idk what the hell to tell you. I run on a single 2560x1440 with HD textures and I could not be more happy.thumb.gif

Mobile GPUs fry & die all the time. Why would you want to spend big bucks to put them into a desktop?
It's probably going to break, and then you need to replace the whole mobo.
Dual GPU < Single GPU for gaming.
And you can't upgrade it.

I'm shocked this has recieved so much positive feedback. There's nothing I find appealing about the Zeus, especially because it's an Asus endeavor that will likely cost a ton, have a small population of owners, and be a technical nightmare if it breaks/starts causing errors. Sending in the motherboard for a burnt 7970 you can't part out after it's extinct? No thanks.
