If you were to go with the i5 chip on the 1155 platform, you could always go with an i7 chip down the road. Just like anything else, if you wait to long, it will also be end of life, and you will need a new motherboard, but this is unavoidable with any platform. There is no reason to be considering 2011 for gaming only, as any i5 chip from 1155 will be great. The 2320 will be solid for your gaming rig.

i see.. biggrin.gif

thanks

It supports 16 lanes of pci-e, so you can do x8-x8 dual card graphics solutions (good enough for 99.9% of people). The new ivy bridge cpus support pci-e 3.0, which provides very high bandwidth to the gpus, so running in 8x mode is not going to be a bottleneck at all. They also support very high speed RAM due to ivy bridge's amazing memory controller.
2011 is a more expensive platform, supports 40 pci-e lanes (up to 4-way sli/xfire at x8-x8-x8-x8), and quad channel memory. The cpus also go up to 6 cores with 12 threads. On a budget tho, this is probably not the platform to choose.
1156 is dead, don't buy it.
1366 is dead, don't buy it.

i hope i could get my hands on those 2011 mobo's...

thanks biggrin.gif

Budget gaming system

Core i5 3450 3.1GHz LGA 1155 Processor $150

ASRock Z77 Pro3 $110

OCZ Technology Agility 3 120gig Sata3 $100

Corsair XMS Series 4GB DDR3-1600 $25

Builder Series 500 Watt $57

Thermaltake V3 Black Edition $27

Samsung 22X DVD±RW Burner $16

Total system price $485 with no gpu for now. The iGpu can game nicely on new games until you pick up a gpu later or now. Either way $500 will game.

Why would you be a dead man?

Also, for 1155 definitely go for a z77 chipset if you can and if not z68 will do just as well for mobos where manufacturers are updating the bios for the new Ivy Bridge processors

Do you want to overclock or no? Do you want to max out setting in your games or med-high is fine? What's your budget?

i see, don't wanna have bigger problem... anyways, i started it.. sorry dude, pls understand dumb-ass ppl like me.

im not into overclocking, i wanna have maxed out settings, and my budget would be (sincs im living in phils.) 206$(converted to usd)..

Yeah, 1155 is the way to go!

Don't worry about it being a "dead socket" i was rolling on a "dead socket" for a few years, i was given the PC from a friend upgrading and it was still decent!

Just don't get caught up in the constant upgrade cycle! tongue.gif

See my post above for $485 total system price with a SSD drive. You can't buy a new system to game for $206 tho. NO WAY.

The only thing i'd upgrade to would be an 8GB ram kit both for the iGPU and when you get higher end games!
8GB ram is alot nicer to have, along with the possibility of having 16GB total. (4x4GB), as opposed to having to replace the first 2x2GB kit.

Lga 2011 is the socket for cpu and x79 is the whole motherboard system. X series are for xtreme systems with more than two graphics cards and a very powerful cpu (example 6 core 3930k)
lga 1155 is the cpu socket and p67/z68/z77 is the motherboard system. P or Z series are for more mainstream people but have less features.
lga 1156 was the socket intel released before 1155 and it was used in p series mobos.
If you are on any kind of budget restriction then forget x79. Just to be clear, you can build a decent lga 1155 computer in the price of just 2011 cpu and mobo. Dead sockets are those sockets for whom company has stopped making new cpus. Lga 1155 is going be dead in about a year and half after which they will bring out a new socket. Good thing is it doesn't mean your cpu will become useless. smile.gif Latest graphics card and ram will still work with your mobo and cpu. On an average, a cpu becomes useless after 5-6 years after which it becomes so slow compared to new products that the new ram and graphics card will be slowed down by your older cpu. This is called bottlenecking.
Also, as far as i remember, you decided on a fx 8120 cpu. It will be good enough on stock speeds for about 4 years but after that you should overclock your cpu. Hey, if you are getting performance gain for free then why not biggrin.gif. Also, 8120 is a very good overclocker and you will easily gain 20% performance gain by overclocking.
