Performance increase after driver releases, HD6950.

Hi mates,

My dead HD5870 is going to be replaced with a HD6950 1GB (too bad it's not a 2GB :/), and at launch they were pretty much on par.

I've been trying to find some information on how have drivers matured on the 6950, but can't find anything.

What performance increase over the release day drivers can I expect to get?

The 6950 pulls ahead of the 5870 by about ~10% at stock clocks. Some 6950s can be unlocked to 6970s (Black PCB ones I think) but I am not sure exactly which ones. But I know you will get much more out of overclocking a 6950 than a 5870.

I guess the HD 6950 1GB is a RMA replacement for your dead HD 5870. if so its fine. otherwise if its a purchase look to get a HD 7850.

Hey, thanks a lot!

I knew they overclocked much better than HD5870s, and considering mine was voltage locked, that's a double gain

This one is a blue PCB, so it won't unlock. I'm not really bothered by it though, won't be folding with it

@raghu: Yeah, it's what I get from RMA. I'd buy a HD7850 otherwise, rest assured!
