MSI GT-780r power jack

Thread Starter
Hi guys, last year a created a thread about wich laptop to buy cause i wented some oppinions from you. Anyways you encouraged me to buy the MSI GT-780r wich was running very well until yesterday.

While i was playing a game, the fan was turned on but the laptop got really hot in the back part and shuted down. I guess its from preventing any damage due to overheating. Anyways i unplugged the charger and the metallic piece you plug in was really hot too. After a few min i turned on the laptop again and it ran normally but the problem was i couldnt charge it.

When i plug in the charger the green light turns on but when i try to plug it into the laptop the charger automatically turns off and the green light disappears. The charger is not the problem because i used a voltmeter to test it so i guess the inside part had a short so i need to repair it. I took it to a store and they told me they would try to change the power jack that was burnt but maybee they couldnt.

I dont know what to do, in case they cant repair my laptop im guessing itrs not the power jack only maybee the motherboard got some damage. But when i turned on the laptop after the powerjack burnt it worked so the only problem is that the laptop wont charge. Should i buy a new motherboard if it doesnt work, or should i try to repair the power jack?

Hope you guys can help me, it was a long post cause i wanted you guys all the details. Thank you guys
P:D: Sorry for bad english:D

Depending on how the unit was manufactured you might be able to replace just the interface and PCB for the power. If you are lucky it will be a separate part you can pickup from the likes of eBay. In other cases it is part of the motherboard itself and you will have to replace it all together.
